Bug Blast 2010

Post 2 of... I don't know how many ;-)
Today, a tribute to the luggage on top... and quite possibly to Coca-Cola (of which I'm not sure they're aware that they're an unofficial sponsor of Bug Blast 2010).
Again, comments, critiques, criticism. If you got an opinion... let me know it! Tomorrow, some interiors.
Bi-Weekly Challenge - Breakfast

So I'm supposed to be lowering my fat intake but toast with butter and eggs with tomato, potato, onion, bacon .... Breakfast
Dark and Brooding Skies

brought the hope of rain yesterday.
the weatherman said it was raining in the bartlett/holland area.
since i happen to live there and i knew it was NOT raining...i went outside to see if the man was nuts or the information on the radar was wrong.
well, neither was correct or at least the rain wasn't hitting the ground.
i did get a gorgeous rainbow and an interesting setting sun. so, i guess it wasn't a total loss.
we are expecting a "cold" front in the morning and hopefully, that will trigger some much needed rain.
the crops are in and the field is cut, so...let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.
now, where did i leave my rain stick? i think i'll go shake it just for good measure!
A few words from my kitchen

Bug Blast 2010

No... not the creepy-crawly bugs, Volkswagen bugs. I went to this event last year and we went again. It seemed much hotter this year. Some guys, I don't think they made it through the grueling heat. However, if you could get to it, there were plenty of refreshing drinks to be bought. After getting something to help fight off the heat and humidity Michael and I wound our way through the numerous vehicles.
This guy's sense of humor really caught my attention (one of the trophies was for passing 6th grade!)
And of all the vehicles with surfboards on top, this one really grabbed me. I think it was the strange things at the top of the window... I have no idea what those cylinders are.....
Anyway, I don't know if it was the heat, the fact I didn't have a polarizing filter for my wide angle lens, or the subject matter but I only took about 40 photos total. I have about 10 more that I'm editing, but they're more of the nitty gritty, up close on the details kind of pictures. I just thought I'd post my "whole" pictures first. Look forward to some... interesting photos the rest of the week.
As always, comments and critiques taken with a smile. Thanks for looking :-D

Bi-Weekly Challenge - cookin' up trouble
Our town has recently started a monthly tour where you go to taste the local home grown restaurants.
I have been on two tours and have enjoyed it alot. I am showing some shots from both of the tours I went to.
We have toured a local brewery that serves an awsome burger called the Class V. Made with jalapenos, special spices and many other great ingredients.
One of our local restaurant owners made this wonderful sweet pepper stuffed with a fava bean humus.
Our local martini restaurant served a woderful sample of their wagyu steak with candied ginger mashed potatoes & and glorious Martini de Sangri. The meat was melt in your mouth good.
If you have never had Frito Pie; you really need to go to First Burger. Usually served in a split down Frito bag, they add their homemade chili topped with cheese, sour cream & green onions. This day they served it to us in a small cup.
Another stop was at a newer restaurant - the sample was good. The starter was their own homemade potatoe chips. Seafood pasta served with a house punch that had a nice "kick" to it.
This is just a sampling of what our town has to offer. Hope you are hungry now.
If you are planning a visit to the Willamette Valley, plan on the monthly Nosh tour. You will enjoy it.

Something i forget...

somewhere along the way i forgot to post this shot.
so, i was walking from the house to the barn, with a juicy gob of black grapes in my left hand and a drink in my right.
i was munching the grapes, picking them off the vine with my teeth.
when i brought my hand up...i almost munched this.
...luckily i saw him first.
i guess i had dribbled some of the luscious grape goo on my finger and he/she honed in on it.
as it sat there on my finger greedily lapping up it's sweet, sweet find...i thought..." i gotta get a picture of this"...then i thought.."no way i can get inside to the camera and fire it up before it flies away."
well, long story short...i did and there it is.
in fact, i had to take it back outside and shoo it off my finger to get it to leave.
i did leave it a squashed grape for payment of its' posing services rendered.
ta ta! lil friend.
great temps
Sunday and Monday we had temps in the 80's and a great cool wind. So Monday we decided to take a hike in one of our favorite places before the temps get up into triple digits again. Alot of rain on Saturday so did not realize the trail was erroded because of the flowing water. Got lost and came upon this sight. A dead cow in the desert does not look like it does in the movies or the cartoons.Might not want to look at these if it would upset you cl83010 1 bones scattered by scavengers cl83010 2 Always have a GPS with us just in case but we were not too lost so found our way back easy to the rest of trail.
Bi-Weekly Challenge - Cookin' up Trouble

Article taken from the Modern Duckie magazine.
Greetings fellow gourmet dinners. Today we will be shown how to dine on the cheap.
First gather your ingredients, do a little chopping, and browning; then mix it all together in a pot a cook all day.
Serve in your favorite bowl, with your favorite drink. For a little after dinner repast, enjoy your favorite takehome.

last but not least...
.....about the bands
after a bit of a delay and one cancellation, one of the mainliners i had come to see had finally arrived.
i was glad to see the doug moreland band take the stage.
he never disappoints. doug is a consumate professional, the ultimate performer.
it was 2 pm and it had to be 108*. if there was a breeze i couldn't find it, but, i never saw him sweat.
he laughed and joked and carried on, really engaging the audience members...both of them.
he told the stories behind his songs and if i'd a had the energy i'd a done a two step to his enthusiastic original texas swing.
when his set was over he actually came out and had a beer with the crowd, shaking hands and signing autographs. he personally thanked just about everybody there for coming out and enduring the inhospitable conditions. i gotta say i really liked his attitude
up next were the "new" derailers. they were allright. but, imho, since tony; the former lead man left, they were a mere cookie cutter country band. a shell of the band they used to be. i guess that's what happens when your lawyers start tellin' ya what ya can play.
hayes carll...one valium too many. 'nuff said!
the headliners, reckless kelly took the stage at about 8pm.
they were the ones i had waited around for!
i don't know if i was just too tired by then, but, i was a bit dissappointed.
there seemed to be no energy onstage. no pizzazz. not what i expected from a nationally signed recording artist.
they never really acknowledged the crowd, which by this time had swelled to a staggering 25 or 30!
perhaps, they were a bit dissappointed too? whatever...they were still gettin' paid.
they played a good enough two hour set. i heard a couple of tunes i knew from the radio and they played some i hadn't heard.
they shut it down promptly at 10 p.m. and after one paltry encore, they were gone.
they didn't even stick around for a meet and greet as all the others had and they didn't sign any autographs. how rude!
anyway, i checked my phone for the time and it was indeed 10:10 p.m.
well, that's it, ...the whole bag of potatoes!
thanks for coming along, and it didn't cost you a thing....can we go home now?
love,
d
ps...thanks to hubby for shootin the sony back up while i went in search of batteries for my canon. you done good.
