Railroad bridge demolition (sorta)
Thames River, CT a bit of a mess as the construction company waited until they had the new bridge superstructure in to figure out that they couldn't disassemble the old one! Here you see the rusty counterweight of the old bridge surrounded by the new bridge's parts to create a drawbridge effect.
If/when they do figure it out, the Northeast Corridor will be down for the duration, as this is the way to get from Boston to NYC. According to our local paper, "The frustration level of those affected by the Thames River railroad bridge closure reached new heights Wednesday as Amtrak contractors set yet another schedule to finish the project."
Update
Text under this link for the curved image was missing when published. What I had said to explain this seemingly simple image is that the Acela train uses these rails, and it is a high speed train that leans to one side or the other in order to lean into a turn-thereby allowing it to make the turns faster without tipping over.
It looks like I have the camera accidentally at an angle, but I don't!The rails, wires, and supports all lean into the turn!
Something wrong with the site, as the image I uploaded, with the right title, is not what is shown. The title you see does not match the image that the title goes with. The following link should take you to a close-up of the bridge, showing the rusty counterweight stuck inside a new, shiny grey superstructure:

(just liek the link at the top of this article should have (note the same name). The image is _MG_7919_003, which you see at the top of the pop-up window an image is shown in when you click for the links in each article.
I also had added another shotwhich had not made it to publish:
These guys were swimming under the rails, completely unaware of the $76M budget being exceeded as the whole family went for a leisurely swim in the shade of one of the massive [mechanical] cranes at the site.
The last image that was missed was this one, which was taken at the loswest levels of the subway in Manhattan where I saw the biggest rats running around on the platform I have ever seen: You should see the rats down here!
Sorry that some of that was missing... No idea how, but it must have made the post look really confusing! :)
