Challenge: What did you do?

we spent this weekend at the temple harley  party drags. some of the things i saw inspired this challenge...what would do you do to get a photograph?

for instance, i was willing to sit in creaky old wooden bleachers, packed with hot sweaty spectators, next to a hot asphalt racetrack in 100 degree heat and 90% humidity for nearly three hours to take pictures of top fuel drag bikes.

i could taste the smell of the nitro in the air and the roar of the top fuelers was ear- popping thunder. however, patience rewarded me with a  couple of  shots i really liked.

i also had to shoot in a different mode than i was used to, so, i learned a couple of new tricks to using my camera.

as i was sitting there asking myself "why are you here instead of home in the comfort of an air conditioner?" ...i started to notice a lot of photographers , they were .everywhere  (check out the background behind the smoke!)

some were closer  to the action than i was willing to get. i have to admit i had  lens envy when i saw this.

why were they here? what would they do to get their shot, THE one they were looking for. i had to wonder, is it the rush you get when you get just the shot you wanted? something else? i wanted to ask them, but, we were all absorbed in our cameras. looking. waiting. hoping!

so, i was thinking for the challenge you could get out of your comfort zone and shoot something you've never shot before. use a different setting on your camera than you normally do.

shoot a subject you've not tried. try an effect or even a photoshopped creation you just learned how to do. just try something new. get out the book that came with your camera and re-read it.

just remember to be safe, be current, and to tell us what you did to get the shot.

love,

d

thanks to obvious troll for passing the challenge to me. i hope you enjoy it.

  • Re: Lens Envy

Yeah, I know what that's like - I've been having fun taking pictures at a summer concert series this year; and every week the local paper's photographer would show up with his nice, fat, fast telephoto lens.

    Sigh. Maybe someday.

I like your idea for a challenge, I'm looking forward to finding something I can submit.

  • Great idea Dee and thanks for pushing your creative envelope to give us some cool drag bike shots. I like the closer images of Nitro smoking his donut with shooters front and back. I hope you were wearing hearing protection.
