For the past three weeks have not really felt like doing anything, except go to work and then come home, take medicine and hit the couch.  Did go to mom's for a little while yesterday and while sitting outside was playing with settings on my camera and had just put it on monochrome when one of my

great nephew sat down next to me and I just turned my camera to him and snapped

Went through a few of my pics taken earlier and came across this one of my father-in-law--original is in color but my thought was "he looks so sad" wonder what it would be to turn to b/w, so here it is (in the color version you can tell that the dark area below his nose is blood which I did not even notice that his nose was bleeding when I first took the picture)--a couple of wks ago he fell and broke a hip so is now in a rehab center

Oliver Hill

Hello everyone, Far too much time has past since my last post. I've been hanging around lately and checking out members I hadn't seen before. There are a lot of talented photographers here.

A lot has happened during my absence, but one thing stands out above all. My wife and I moved into out first home during the summer and as great as it may be, it pales in comparison to the newest member of our family. No, we didn't have a child but we did obtain a dog!

We went to a so-called breeder to look at a

shih tzus. The house was filthy and so were the animals. We didn't know what to think or do for that matter. Anyway, the first dog my wife held was a male Yorkshire Terrier or so we thought. You see he seems a little too tall and long and has rather large ears to be a Yorkie. After some internet research we came across a photo of a Australian Terrier. Well, the picture is the spitting image of our new friend. He was dirty and was shaking like a leaf. I could see the eyes of my wife swelling as she held him and I was so furious that we decided to take him and forget about the shih tzus. No regrets what so ever. We love the little guy to death and he is one spoiled little s*#t.

As we left the breeders home, instead of turning left towards the way of which we had arrived, we turned right and came to a stop sign about 1/2 a mile down the road. We intended on using the name Oliver for a male dog, so Oliver it was. Well, as we approached the stop sign we couldn't help but notice the street sign...Oliver Hill Road. What a cowinkydink, huh? So, his name is of course Oliver Hill. It will be 8-weeks this Sunday since he came into our lives and now I'd like to share a few pics I took of him last Sunday. Thank You for taking the time to read and I'd appreciate your feedback.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a jolly bottoms up!

I have not had the opportunity to go and take any new pictures for the challenge. I have been working out of the home office and the available daylight keeps getting shorter. I looked back at some photos taken earlier this year and thought that this would make a nice conversion. I am glad that I did.

My issue with B&W photography is getting the whites to be white.  Any suggestions?

I have been looking for a B&W subject for a few days. Friday night's snowfall resulted in this image.  November_Snow Saturday morning had so little color that a color photo would not have felt right. As you can see the lake effect snow was still falling when I took the picture. Actually a very pretty picture in the backyard until I disturbed the snow by dragging the snow blower from the shed to the garage.

I found an old stump.

Its textures intrigued me, and so I delved deeper. What I found were lines, cracks and curves; splintered parts and smooth parts... a texture artist's dream I'm sure!

I'll admit these are Photoshopped - I just duped the green channel and converted to grayscale. XD

Bi-weekly challenge - Black & White

By MRQUACKERS

I went out and bought a disposable black and white camera for this challenge, I didn't want the temptation to suddenly switch back over to color.  Plus as an experiment, I wanted to see if the pictures came out OK.  After they scanned the negatives, the digital picture tended to be a little flat and not to sharp.  In all honesty, it was 400 ASA film so some graininess should be expected.  All pictures ran through PhotoShop.

This is a sculpture I've been watching and thinking about - beaten (?) aluminum; all nice and shinny.  I've tried taking pictures of it with the Olympus, but the sun reflection just burns everything out.  It didn't do it so bad this time, so maybe B/W isn't so bad after all.

Here is power station, there were some strange lines going on there.  I liked the roof on this, and the food!  Just playing around, here is a white and black in black and white.

Of the roll of 27, I think this horse came out the best.

As much as I liked this challenge, I think I'll keep to color.  But then again, that sculpture don't look too bad.
