NOT A STRANGER TO WAR
I am in a SPRING mode with all of natures BEAUTY before me....But came upon this guy with a completely different focus. When you procrastinate...
Here it is, the last weekend of the strangers challenge, (my first since joining) and I have yet to work on the assignment. (sigh) Reminds me of my school days.
Since I'm up against the wall, I'm going to submit one old picture, and one new. The
old picture was taken last fall on a trip up north. I'd noticed this bench earlier in the day around noon, and when I came back after 5 this lovely couple was sitting and watching the lake. I'd noticed them holding hands earlier that afternoon too. They were a great couple together. Just for the fun of it, I tried to punch it up a little digitally.
On the Bench
I usually don't like black and white, so I added a little touch of color.
This morning I was out patrolling a graveyard in search of an interesting picture, when I stumbled upon these guys enjoying some time off.
Fishing
I'm going to do better at the next challenge. Really...I am!
Strangers at Monterey
Don't have much time to type, I'm at a family gathering, but wanted to upload my pics. Hope you like!Yankee Stadium
Strangers at The House That Ruth Built
When I go to
Yankee Stadium, fifty percent of my mind is on the game, fifty percent is on the other fans and food vendors.

The Players
The Fans
At this game I taught my 11 year old nephew how to score. When I told him he needed to write the temperature on the top of the score card he wrote "73 degress, right now". This is how he filled out his line up card for the Yankees - Johnny, Derek, Gary, Alex, Jason, Hedeki, Bernie, Robby and Gary. That about says it all, just a bunch of kids playing a game.
Games people play at Yankee Stadium.
Yankee Stadium, the House that Ruth Built, the Cathedral of Baseball, the Home of the Evil Empire. Here are a few games that are played while the Yankees play.
Bleacher Creatures - are in the right field bleachers. If I'm not mistaken, these are all season ticket holders. It is a tight knit group of people. In the first inning the bleacher creatures chant the Yankees fielder's names starting with the pitcher and ending with the right fielder. The Bleacher Creatures will not stop chanting a players name until the player tips his cap to them. Of course they stop chanting when the pitch is thrown.
Players Favorite Songs - Before a player comes to bat a song is played on the public address system. These songs are the player's choice. So when a player comes up to bat he will hear one of his favorite songs. The fans get a different taste of the player by listening to their song. When a relief pitcher enters the game their favorite song is also played. Mike Myers is a new relief pitcher and they play the sound track to the movie "Halloween". Marion Rivera enters to "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, and during the playoffs the whole stadium sings the song as he enters.
New York, New York - the song. "If you can make it there..." This song is played on the public address system after the end of each game. As you are walking down the wide ramps the song is blaring loud. If the Yankees win, they play the Frank Sinatra version, but if they lose they play the Lisa Minnelli version. They don't like Lisa. This song drove the Arizona Diamond Backs owner crazy during the World Series. He got the last laugh when the Diamond Backs won. My favorite quote from that series, when the Yankees were described as being a team of Destiny and Mystic, one Arizona reporter said, "Destiny and Mystic are just two adult entertainment dancers in downtown Arizona". I might be misquoting here, but who cares.
My cousin and I go to one or two games a year now. We always bring our own
food. During the seventies we went quite often when general admission was only $3.50 and you could get a good heavenly seat in back of home plate.
Enter Sandman
Say your prayers little one
Don't forget, my son
To include everyone
Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes
Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight
Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Not-So- Strange Strangers
Here is my attempt with the stranger challenge. I had to laugh when I saw this holy man of some kind at the gas pump. He was obviously not enjoying the rising gas prices, he kept shaking his head... I guess NOBODY can escape the prices these days. The next two are from the archives. This was an exuberant group of kids in a

Texas Wild Flower
Went to see the Texas
However, to keep the flowers wild and beautiful, certain rules have to be followed. It is sad that despite the large warning
signs, some on the
other side of the fence just don't listen.
STRANGER SEARCH
Down town New London is a great source of subjects......We ate at the Broken Yoke, owned by a young Austrian chef.We then drove to Richmond, Va. to see our daughter,Kirsten. We stopped in Carytown and I happened upon a great little group of street drummers..
B&W's
Yes it is true. I was stalking the A Begger in Jinbi Square - Kunming China

What a story I am sure he could tell about his life in communist china. And the hard life truly shows on his face.
Strangers In Mexico
I know that part of the challenge was to go out and take some photos this week. Well I went to Mexico a couple of months back, and I had a couple nice photos of strangers that I just had to post.
The first one is of a man on the beach. Most people on the beach were either tourists, or trying to sell you something. This man looked like a local, and he was just walking up and down the beach picking rocks.
The Stone Picker
While walking through town I spotted this man and kid. Obviously poor, as they were looking for handouts, but they were well known by all the shop keepers. Everyone waved and said hi as they passed by. The picture is a bit blurry because the sun was setting and I was in the shadow of the building beside (Low shutter speed). But I thought it added to the character of the photograph.

Strangers
Yes, it is a little daunting taking photos of complete strangers, and I found myself taking too many from the rear. So with the help of a zoom, or by simply asking, here is what I managed to get. This
Thanks for looking.

My friend with the beautiful

I went to the zoo yesterday. It was a great day, except my camera ended up dying. So I only got one animal shot, and I missed out on a ton of shots I desperately wanted to take. Luckily I got a zoo pass, so I'll be able to go back and take more shots!
Had lunch with a friend...here are a few strangers
