Challenge: Strangers

Another Bi-weekly Challenge has come and gone! Thanks to Don (loweho- a.k.a. Poo Slinger) for a great theme of Signs and for giving me the opportunity to select the next theme.

The new theme is People Are Strange.

This is something that I have been thinking about for a while because I have seen some great photographers on this site share their photos that go along with this theme. This challenge will hopefully get us all out of our comfort zone. Here are the guidelines:

-Shots should be of people you don't know.
-Pictures should be taking over the next two weeks, but old photos can be submitted with a story of the shot.
-In showing your pictures, give some feedback on how you felt taking the shots and where you got them.
-Be creative (I don't even have to say that!)
-Bonus points (well we don't really have bonus points) will be given for catching people doing strange or funny things.

Thats it. I haven't even tried this yet, so I am looking forward to going into public places to get some shots!

Since there has been a run of guys getting the tap for the next challenge, I will make the switch and pass the torch to our youngest gal- Jessa!

Happy Shooting Everyone!

I guess I was reading your thinking - did you see my question this week in the photography discussions? I will have to keep my eyes open.

  • I may have to take a walk through Walmart with my cell phone camera for this one. Plenty of strange ducks in that place.

Har har to Classyshots... This challenge is definitely going to be a challenge for me. It kind of bothers me taking pictures of strangers... I guess I'm too nice for my own good. This is going to take me out of my comfort zone, which is going to be a very new experience for me. I'm sure I'll end up thanking you for it. Woohoo! I'm excited :) And thank you for passing the torch to me, it'll be fun thinking about what the next challenge should be. Bahaha..

  • I will withdraw from this challenge. It goes against my grain to take photos of people without their knowledge and without permission. I will catch you guys on the next one.

Damn you, Jay, you know I hate to take pics of people especially ones I don't know. I'm going to have to work on this baby! But thanks for passing it to Jessa, I think it should go old to new just to break up the clannish nature of something like this. p.s. Glad the tornados passed you by Jay!

I will relent a bit to some of you who don't like to take shots of people and say that you can post people doing strange things. So you can take pics of people you know, but it has to be strange stuff. I will also say that if you see someone you don't know but think it would be an interesting shot, ask them before you shoot. That way you meet someone you didn't know before this challenge. One thing that comes to mind was a few post that someone took of people on the street. Just have fun with it anyway you like.

I'll do it Jay I was just whining cause I told Barb that I bet you pick portraits cause I don't normally do them, unless it's the kids. But I will take pics of strangers, even if I don't like to. Hey, it's supposed to be a challenge ain't it? Besides, nobody in the family does strange things but me!

  • One suggestion--take someone with you when you shoot. I shot the pix of the softball girl with my wife by my side...it's a lot more "normal" looking, especially us fellers with cameras, that way.
