Just got the email challenge. It's hard to believe 35,000+ pictures and three years have gone by since my last post - - so, hello again to anyone who remembers me.
My entry Toxomerus occidentalis making more Toxomerus occidentalis was taken on June 9, 2009, on one of my daily Bugtography walks.

Best of 2009 - Human Interest
When I first joined Photographica I posted mostly city scapes until the biweekly challenge to photograph strangers by Jay. http://www.photographica.org/story/18068/a-stranger-serendipity I found my passion when I started photographing strangers on the streets. My passion blossomed because members of Photographica suggested famous photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson and books like "The Ongoing Moment" by Geoff Dyer. So you see that's Mr. Wapiti's human interest story.
Here's Mr. Wapiti's human interest photo.

Some how this little fella found himself in the middle of our apartment complex parking lot, so we moved him to the back garden area before something unmentionable happened. Of course I could not help to take a few shots of the Caterpillar
"WISP OF HAIR" - BEST OF 2009 - PORTRAIT
I was playing with my new Canon 40D at my youngest son's 10th birthday party and snapped this shot of one of his friends as she was about to brush a wisp of hair from her face.

This was for an advanced artistic photography class. I took the class because I'm trying to break out of my commercial brain. Don't get me wrong, I like shooting beautiful people and street scenes. But, it is getting stale. So, I went a little crazy with some of the work for the class. When I first started turning in work, the instructor said that some of my images were "disturbing". I'd liked that! So, for the final project, I decided to rock his world. Don't freak out, that's me in the box. The head was taken in my studio. The trash was taken in an alleyway in Tampa. But the box represents feeling trapped by my current gig, and being packed in the newspaper is representative of me feeling wrapped up in photojournalism. I know i know...it's a little freaky.

I have always enjoyed taking photo's of flowers and I particularly like this one because of the play on colors... Even if I don't win any contest with this one, I hope that the rest of you enjoy my endeavers... This photo was taken on 05/04/09 with a Nikon Coolpix P90... Ladies and Gentlemen, I don't know what happened with the original photo that I had uploaded for this contest... The resolution was really junk and a couple of you have pointed this out to me... I am sorry and I am trying to re- upload the photo that I wanted to use... I hope that this works... Thank You...

I didn't have too many favorites this year. This is the only one I liked enough to have printed, so I guess that qualifies.
The Columbine is our state flower here in Colorado and usually they are light blue. This one was yellow (my first yellow one). So, you may be wondering, Why B&W? When I saw the color image on the big screen and it was very disappointing (no detail). Just for fun I decided to try it in B&W and shazam. I've always loved good B&W and there you go.
Hope you like it too.
