A couple of old ones for the theme and a note on hummers

By ClassyShots written 12/1/06 5:59 PM, published 12/4/06 3:24 PM

Ok.. these three are old shots but they work for light and I liked them. Candle On White and Candle On Black and you just can't party without a Black Light.

Quick note on hummingbirds. If you are interested in them and learning how they are moving into different areas of the country for wintering, pick up the Dec/Jan edition of National Wildlife. There is a good story on them. It is also their "Best Photographs of 2006" issue. Take a look and see if you have what it takes.

Have a good weekend. I'm off to Newport for the day Saturday. The commercial crab boats are in with all of their gear on deck waiting to rock and roll for the start of the season. There are very few days in the year you catch them with all the gear stacked on deck and on top of that they are calling for 60 and sunny on the beach. I WILL be there.

Challenge: A New Challenge....The Quality of Light

By BEARPHOTO from Nov 19, 2006, to Dec 03, 2006

The "quality of light" that produces images on film or a digital system is key to a good photograph. Let us have fun, and use lighting as a means to enhance and add drama to our images.
Thank you for passing on the torch of challenge Candice. You are a hard act to follow. Here are some images that I think light played a key role.

Sunlight through sea water with its rays being caught by tiny particles in the water  (ok really an extravagant aquarium).

An indirect picture of the sun (ok really another extravagant aquarium).

can you find Nemo?

Woke up this morning to 18 degrees and a frozen glass door. Only a little morning light was coming through the iced-over glass. It melted very shortly after I shot this. ~~~~~Macro: Ice

sunset and sunrises

By auntilaila written 11/30/06 8:42 PM, published 11/30/06 8:42 PM

I love the sunsetsunset through the tree
And I love the sunrisemyrtle beach sunrise
I want them to be better and more clear.  I do know I need a better camera but I love trying.  You guys are inspiring and the more i come here, the more I learn.

The sunrise pic clouds of glory is of great motivation.  I was walking along the beach and found heavy self sinking in the sand and the seagulls helped me walk 40 paces at a time until i reached the pier.  I tend to panic when I don't know what to do.  Anyway thanks for looking.  Any comment is welcome.

Invisible Light

Here is an entry for the challenge. For the past few years the place where I work has hosted an event called Operation Warm Wings (providing coats to needy children).  With the generosity of individuals and businesses we have helped to provide several hundred coats.
I can't show you the faces of the kids but sure wish you could have seen them, it was really exciting this year--the kids were all 4/5/6 year old and they were so excited.  This past Tuesday there were eighty coats received and next week there will be a hundred more coats given to kids.(that is it for this year)
It was a joy to watch the kids, we had a little something for them to eat before handing out the coats and you should have seen the kids looking at the coats and wondering 'which one is mine'. There was this one little girl who kept looking at a pink coat and I could hear her say, "Oh, I hope I get that pink coat', and you could hear them say, "wow, look at those coats".
When we did begin to hand out the coats and as each child's name was called you should have seen their face, and the little girl who wanted to get the pink coat--wouldn't you know, her name was called out for that one--her face just lit up.
Coats  sorry, on Coats you will need to use Ctrl N, did not realise it would be so big.

   Have a good day!!

The Quality of Light

By LaPineian written 11/30/06 12:14 AM, published 11/30/06 8:42 AM

Here are a few pics from the last couple days. Taken with the light challenge in mind. It has been snowy and very cold. It was 4 below zero when I took this shot. With my fingers numb and my nose hairs froze I headed back inside! My oldest son planted a Marigold seed last Mothers Day in a cup. It has been on my window sill. I believe I took pictures today of its last bloom. Here they are. Mothers Day Marigold

The thumbnail is a picture I took last summer, when photography was just grabbing hold of me.The sun was shining directly through the window into this iris. Though this is an old shot I wanted to share it for this challenge.
Thanks for looking!

Variety of Light

By MrEd written 11/24/06 8:54 PM, published 11/30/06 8:25 AM

I was driving home the other night from work trying to beat the sun because I wanted to get shots of this incredible sunset.  It looked like the clouds were on fire, but I was stuck in my car without a camera.  It was so dark by the time I got my camera it took an 8 second exposure to get this shot.  To contrast that, here's a picture from a few months back of some early morning sunlight.
