Looking Down & Back At My Ole Pal

By dcraton written 12/15/06 10:44 AM, published 12/15/06 8:49 PM

My Ole Pal He was born with a deformed right front leg.  His ears weren't perfect.  He was large for a Dalmatian and thought he was a 76 lb. lap dog.  He got hair everywhere and I love to wear black.  But, he was our pal and bud for 12 years.  He passed last year and this was one of my last shots of him probably wanting a bone or treat or a butt rub or back scratch or his favorite, a scratch behind the cockeyed ear.  I miss him.  But everytime I see this pic, I smile.  He was the happiest being I have ever met despite all his imperfections.  This creature loved life, eating, playing, and curling up for a nap.

His original owners were going to put him down at 8 weeks old because he did not meet AKC contest specifications.  Who does?  We took him and loved him and still do.  His name. . .Alex.  I have part of a song posted I wrote for him at http://www.davidcraton.com/mp3/stampede_tc.mp3.

The big goober!

Looking Down

By Pablo57 written 12/15/06 7:02 PM, published 12/15/06 7:02 PM

Usually every Friday night I am at my parent's house in Queens (I'm the King of Queens) and the internet doesn't exist there.  So tonight's post is special, I'm at home in Brooklyn, after a badly planned company holiday party.

During the week I was looking down at :

Fancy Pizza on 8th Ave, not my style I like it Sicilian from a pie of eight slices (2x4)

from my 14th floor office window, 7th Ave and 36th  St.

The subway tracks toward Coney Island

                       The Christmas tree wrapping machine

And yesterday, I went under cover on 37th Street

NYC is reaching the saturation point.  Today was a grid lock alert day, which means it's so crowded the city street grid locks (see photo below)from too many cars.  That doesn't stop us from walking over to the skating rink during lunch hour.

My Arizona Travels

By lizzyj written 12/14/06 5:55 PM, published 12/14/06 5:55 PM

Last spring my family and I went to Arizona for spring break. We spent some time hiking in different parts. We saw tons of seguaro cactiseguaro over hiking trail all over those beautiful landscapes. One day we drove to Sedona, ended up finding out about a place  not too far from there. We went down curving roads into the still slightly snow capped mountains and stopped at a site near a bridge for a nice little restriver under bridgebefore traveling back down the mountain to look at and buy native american jewelry. I bought a sweet turqoise and silver butterfly necklace. The trip was refreshing overall.

Views from the Austrian Alps!!

By Reilly3079 written 12/14/06 4:18 PM, published 12/14/06 4:18 PM

I just returned from Germany and Austria just in time to post in the Look Down Challenge!!
I took close to 1500 shots while we were there, there will be plenty more coming once I finish cleaning and resizing.
Here is a look from a 3000 meter high Alp called Der Dachstein. Was a fabulous ride to the top in the Gondola. On the trip up we saw this Hikers House about 1/2 way to the top. In the hiking season these building are used for rest stops for the hikers. They are everywhere in the Alps. Now the view from the top of the world, Looking down at clouds was a very impressive site. At the bottom was the Gondolas starting point.
Now for the news..............
Micky my lovely lady said YES!!!! I did the formal thing and asked her dad (in German I might add)at dinner permission to marry and she said YES!!! I even got down on the knee and slid the ring on! Was a fantastic vacation!!!

I've not taken too many pictures lately and none worth sharing :-(  Not wanting to miss out on the challenge I found three from the past to share.

Looking Down Fontana Dam in Smokey Mountains.

Looking Down Hole in Dam  Not in the Fontana Dam, but an old one that's fallen into disrepair.

Looking Down Jupiter Lighthouse in Florida.

Enjoy!
