Another dimension of Brighton Beach is the Russian night clubs.  There are about ten night clubs in and around Brighton Beach.  The clubs are for celebrating everything and anything.  From children’s birthdays to weddings. Who needs an excuse to celebrate?  Not I, give me a shot of smooth vodka and chase it with another.

Most of the clubs offer food, live music, dancing and a Las Vegas type show at 11PM (no cameras allowed) also breakfast is served at 4AM.  The photos in the slide show do not include the Las Vegas shows, but do include the live music entertainment.  The clubs featured are Rasputin, Tatiana and Metropole.

Dawn in Dallas

By JackInTX written 2/18/07 7:21 PM, published 2/22/07 8:29 PM

Got up at the crack of dawn to catch the best light to get a couple of shots from downtown. This is Main Street, Dallas, TX. If you look just off center to the right you can see One Main Place. I've shot this one before using a different perspective, but today i was able to catch the morning sun halfway up the building at 7 in the morning.

This next shot has little to do with Main Street, but I just had to share my best buddy, Rex .  I used a 10-22mm wide angel lens on this one, shot at 13mm.

Down on my Main Street

By kps1222 written 2/22/07 1:00 PM, published 2/22/07 1:00 PM

My Main Street is probably very simialar to many Main Streets across the U.S. A place hopefully for people to congrigate and meet.
Holly Springs is one of the old southern towns that didn't change from the 1800's, (actually around 1830)until recently. By recently I mean in the last Oh 15 years!
Our main street is lucky in that we have new shinny buildings mixed in with some grand old buildings!
This challenge has been difficult. SO many photos I could take. But are they really Main Street?
Here is my Main Street. Our new Town Hall in Holly springs North Carolina!
DSC05283 DSC05287 Around the corner is the Police stationDSC05289 One of our older buildings that has been renovated and reused. At one time it was the Train Depot/U.S. Post Office and General store in Holly Springs.
Let's continue to the back of Town Hall
DSC05296  as you can see we really like our Town Hall building. It was designed to be impressive even from the back street, I think it is.
Across the parking lot the new shopps are waiting to service the town with a bank, ice creamery, pizza palor and other services to comeDSC05292

My favorite building in Holly Springs is  "The Mims House" circa 1840's DSC05294 DSC05302 This grand old home is on the National Registry of Antebellum Homes. It has
recently been purchased by an indivdual Who will be renovating it completely and offering it as banquet and reception venues for the public. We the resendents cannot wait. DSC05305 DSC05306 DSC05307 I can't help but imagine how many couples have snuck-out of one of the many Balls held here for a moon-light kiss!
The third floor has an original ball room that is to be a major part of the renovation. If these walls could talk what would they say!"please put me back the way I was; I miss the lovers"

This beauty is the home of Dewer's Antiques and Florist. The owner, Larry, is one of our towns great personalities and only the 2nd owner of the building!  the shop is an archive of wonderful objects! This is a story for another day!
In finishing our tour of Holly Springs let's not forget our newest addition and a first in the county of Wake
DSC05273
Our Library and Cultural Center.
for a town that only about 15 years ago has a population of around 6000 residents, it has grown to almost 16000!this is the fastest growing town in North Carolina.I know the residents will keep the charm of this fabulous tiny spec on the map. We love our town! Look for more stories about her!

Down on Mission Street

By fuzzy1 written 2/21/07 9:13 PM, published 2/22/07 9:38 AM

In San Francisco's Mission District, the main street is Mission Street .  Starting at the Embarcadero, it runs thru the Mission and south down the Peninsula, where it turns into CA 82, changes it's name to El Camino Real and goes all the way to San Jose (or maybe further, I'm not sure...).

The stretch of Mission between 16th and 24th Streets used to be the 'strip', where you could go watch the boys cruise their low-riders up and down the block on warm summer nights.  Today, it's a somewhat-down-on-it's-luck working class Hispanic neighborhood where sights like this  and this  are all too common.  I walked the entire 8 block stretch, trying to be very careful about not pointing my camera at people, because it can sometimes be not-healthy to photograph gang-bangers, folks without green cards  and drug deals in progress.  Entire blocks are sometimes nothing but 99-cent stores , tiny neighborhood grocery stores  and single-room-occupancy  SRO hotels .  Places like places like this  are all too common.

But even amidst this somewhat bleak picture, there is still life and color  and a strong Hispanic flavor  to the neighborhood.  On a sunny afternoon, even the crumbling Victorians  are beautiful.  The Mission is full of colorful murals  and fabulous  old architecture, if you look past the dirt and the crime and the homeless.

This neighborhood is also known for it's artists - small theatre groups and tiny galleries and rehearsal spaces are everywhere, although they're being threatened by the rising rents and gentrification brought on by the dot-com boom of the late 90's.  All too often these days, it seems as though the older buildings are either being torn down or converted to high-priced condos, and trendy new restaurants  can frequently be found popping up next door to the fading relics  of yesterday...

(Sorry it's a bit long with lots of photos...I'm not too good at editing myself sometimes, and I like telling stories.  If you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed the trip...)

Some other stuff from Chinatown....

WARNING: Photoshop ahead.

I wanted to give them an aged, faded, beat-up feel, like they've been in a box in the closet for 20 years and you've just pulled them out to show the grandkids what it was like back in the day, or you've been carrying them around in your wallet thru all of your life's travels, to be taken out and looked at tenderly when you're homesick and far from home....

An enigma within an enigma - Main Street

By Pablo57 written 2/21/07 4:23 AM, published 2/21/07 4:46 PM

Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, New York, is also called Little Odessa by the Sea.  It is the largest Russian speaking community in the world outside of mother Russia.  It is filled with fun loving people and we love living here. We live three blocks away in Coney Island.  The main street is Brighton Beach Avenue and the Avenue is one block north of the Brighton Beach/Coney Island Boardwalk and beach.  The main street is filled with shops that people from the tri-state (NY,NJ and Conn.) visit every weekend.  Brighton Beach Avenue is covered by the elevated subways and has two subway stops, one at each end of the Avenue.  The B train terminates at the Brighton Beach subway stop and it is a favorite destination for beach goers.  Here are a few Sunday morning calm shots for starters.
