Full time residents, isn’t their winter camouflage just wonderful.
And that is it for the challenge from me.

Another dimension of Brighton Beach is the Russian night clubs. There are about ten night clubs in and around Brighton Beach. The clubs are for celebrating everything and anything. From children’s birthdays to weddings. Who needs an excuse to celebrate? Not I, give me a shot of smooth vodka and chase it with another. Most of the clubs offer food, live music, dancing and a Las Vegas type show at 11PM (no cameras allowed) also breakfast is served at 4AM. The photos in the slide show do not include the Las Vegas shows, but do include the live music entertainment. The clubs featured are Rasputin, Tatiana and Metropole.
I made another trip down main street with my camera. I am always amazed at the architecture of many of the old buildings.
taking pictures in public for "no apparent reason" isn't really in my comfort zone, but since i had to be downtown today anyways, i gave it a "shot". plus a few non-main street thrown in for fun, (or comfort??). court house on corner of main st.Copy_of_ccbldg front door of tower building across streetbronzedoor

This next shot has little to do with Main Street, but I just had to share my best buddy, Rex . I used a 10-22mm wide angel lens on this one, shot at 13mm.
My favorite building in Holly Springs is "The Mims House" circa 1840's DSC05294 DSC05302 This grand old home is on the National Registry of Antebellum Homes. It has
recently been purchased by an indivdual Who will be renovating it completely and offering it as banquet and reception venues for the public. We the resendents cannot wait. DSC05305 DSC05306 DSC05307 I can't help but imagine how many couples have snuck-out of one of the many Balls held here for a moon-light kiss!
The third floor has an original ball room that is to be a major part of the renovation. If these walls could talk what would they say!"please put me back the way I was; I miss the lovers"

for a town that only about 15 years ago has a population of around 6000 residents, it has grown to almost 16000!this is the fastest growing town in North Carolina.I know the residents will keep the charm of this fabulous tiny spec on the map. We love our town! Look for more stories about her!
The stretch of Mission between 16th and 24th Streets used to be the 'strip', where you could go watch the boys cruise their low-riders up and down the block on warm summer nights. Today, it's a somewhat-down-on-it's-luck working class Hispanic neighborhood where sights like this and this are all too common. I walked the entire 8 block stretch, trying to be very careful about not pointing my camera at people, because it can sometimes be not-healthy to photograph gang-bangers, folks without green cards and drug deals in progress. Entire blocks are sometimes nothing but 99-cent stores , tiny neighborhood grocery stores and single-room-occupancy SRO hotels . Places like places like this are all too common.
But even amidst this somewhat bleak picture, there is still life and color and a strong Hispanic flavor to the neighborhood. On a sunny afternoon, even the crumbling Victorians are beautiful. The Mission is full of colorful murals and fabulous old architecture, if you look past the dirt and the crime and the homeless.
This neighborhood is also known for it's artists - small theatre groups and tiny galleries and rehearsal spaces are everywhere, although they're being threatened by the rising rents and gentrification brought on by the dot-com boom of the late 90's. All too often these days, it seems as though the older buildings are either being torn down or converted to high-priced condos, and trendy new restaurants can frequently be found popping up next door to the fading relics of yesterday...
(Sorry it's a bit long with lots of photos...I'm not too good at editing myself sometimes, and I like telling stories. If you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed the trip...)
WARNING: Photoshop ahead.
I wanted to give them an aged, faded, beat-up feel, like they've been in a box in the closet for 20 years and you've just pulled them out to show the grandkids what it was like back in the day, or you've been carrying them around in your wallet thru all of your life's travels, to be taken out and looked at tenderly when you're homesick and far from home....

Mile Marker 7, the edge of town. Some more businesses some with just a touch of color Looking east toward town.
Took the first two pictures on main street in Fredericksburg. Thought they would count, since it is the closest medium-sized city to us. Go for a ride? Shop Window Gate at Christ Church This is my first post.
The last picture is just one I like.
