Several years ago we planted some tulips.  Most are no longer coming up but this red one is still here.  The sun shining through really makes it light up.

Made a new Friend

By freekinwilly written 3/22/07 5:18 PM, published 3/24/07 5:12 AM

Out and about today in Lexington I was driving by Keeneland on Van Meter Rd and came accross a few horses hanging out by the fence. I pulled over and got my rig out and walked over. Two of the 3 ran off but one stayed to make friends .  Parisian Affair was her name. She is 5 years old or so I read when I looked her up after I got home. She was very gentle and sweet and liked her nose rubbed. If you get the chance to say hello.....she won;t let you down. EnjoyParisian Affair

So, here are some photos...enjoy! It only takes a few minutes for the streets to flood here. A note: My house flooded about this time last year; SUNPOO1_3 faces my front door.

Spring Comes Slowly in the North (Signs of Spring)

By Pyro43 written 3/22/07 6:38 PM, published 3/23/07 2:44 PM

The open water of the Winter River moves quickly down stream as it gathers the rapidly melting snows and spring rains.  Faster and faster it rushes, gaining more water and more speed. It reaches that part of the river that is ice covered, and the bulk of the water rushes under that ice causing tremendous pressure. Suddenly there is an explosion that casts thick slabs of ice into the air. The ice crashes down and joins the race downstream. As it gathers more slabs of ice the river widens. It uproots trees, snatches debris. A huge blockage at a bottleneck here, a bridge there or dam somewhere else causes the water to rise and flood the land. Slowly the water recedes leaving destruction and a mess behind.

This year the river simply cast off its cloak as it broke up. It did widen in places but caused no big harm. Here are a few of the scenes it left behind.
