Challenge: Childhood Pleasures

A thank you to Cannonfodder for a great challenge. I really enjoyed all of your posts and was bummed that I couldn't participate!

There is so much diversity on this site, that I believe we must all have very different items, sights, smells and sounds that trigger memories of childhood for us.

I was born and raised in the Rolling Hills of North Georgia. As a girl I loved to Read, and had a  Favorite Spot in the woods where I could devour the latest book and my oldest siter (the chore police) could not find me.

Our Games were simple, like jump rope, marbles and rock teacher; or homemade like the spool spinners Grandpa whittled. A Christmas Doll was always a special delight.

There were seven children in our family, and bathes for More Than One were a common occurrence.

There was an occasional trip to the local Theatre for a movie. But we mostly occupied our summer days Picking Berries for Grandma's cobblers or climbing trees.

Daddy's Sweet Shrub bush filled the summer nights with perfume and fireflies lit the treetops. The strains of music from the Hi-Fi could be heard throughout the house.

Each night after our prayers, we went to bed. As we drifted off to sleep, there was always a comforting light from under Mother's Door.

This is a glimpse into my childhood. My challenge to you is that you think about your life and the things that made your childhood unique. For those of you who are still experiencing childhood or have just left it--show us what is special to you in your world right now--the simple or wonderful things you believe will be remembered forever.

I am hoping you will be very specific about what makes not just any childhood sweet, but what has made your own childhood sweet.

Thank you to CanonFodder for an excellent challenge. Wonderful photos and story, Phantoms Wife. Favorite photos are theater, hi-fi and mother's door. The karmatic connection to the general forum is very strong. I can almost see the time lines warping to your challenge. Next weekend I'll be in North Augusta, South Carolina, right across the river from Augusta, Georgia.

Great idea and great shots!! No Nancy Drew memories for me though. I was into Tarzan of the Apes in the early 60's still have all the books stored, read them countless times, maybe I'll dig them out. Thanks to CF for the last challenge, I didn't get to participate cause of the back but have some ideas I may get to late and post someday.
