Tv (shutter priority)
AV (aperture priority)
My most used mode is Tv because most of the time concerned with shutter speed than with dof but have used all. When shooting sunsets, for example, I use manual and always start at f-16 at 1/60th, ISO 100 and bracket both ways. I only use automatic when just taking just snapshots usually inside.

Typically the camera stays in Aperture mode.
For indoor macro work, I'll switch to manual.
Sunrise is the sunrise/sunset preset.
Do you switch you lens to manual, if possible? 90% of the time, I use auto.

Aperture priority for me, followed closely by manual. I've gotten to where I use the exposure compensation more often than manual mode though in tough lighting situations. That's just me becoming lazy.
I always have my lenses on manual focus. I don't know if it's my lenses or the camera but I've always felt the auto focus was slow and frustrating.

camera is mostly in aperture mode but when I do macro shots it is in manual

I'd say aperture mode 85% of the time, shutter priority about 10%, and manual mode maybe 5%. Like a lot of the people here I really only use manual settings and focus when I'm shooting macro. I use auto focus for the large majority of my shots. Since I started upgrading to 'pro' glass I'm amazed at the sharpness & clarity I get when I shoot. I've been doing more weddings and senior pictures than anything else the last several years. My 2 main lenses are the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, and the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 vr2. If you ever get the chance to shoot with these Leslie I don't think the words slow and frustrating would ever enter your mind. They're very expensive, but you get what you pay for.

unfortunately, i don't know how to use any of those modes. i like to use P mode. i think it accesses all those choices in one place. at least in my instruction manual, it's the only mode that has all the dots filled in as for what's available. i can set the white balance, iso, the color choice, the exposure and +/- on the flash intensity, i forget what all else i have there. i like it and i never use the automatic.
