Recent Flower Tip reading

Hello Photographica,

I recently read some tips for shooting flowers. One tip surprised me and the tip said not to shoot flowers in direct sunlight.

The flower included here was one shot in mostly shade:

A black eyed Susan in our garden.

Please comment and critique.

Thank you,

Amelia Sunset

Very nice lighting, no glare/hot spots at all. Great DOF and comp.
If you were going to re-shoot this, I'd suggest tilting the camera 45 degrees and shoot with the stem in the corner - just my personal favorite way of shooting.

Not shooting in direct sunlight is a good tip, for just about everything. That said, it is nice to break the 'rules' sometimes.

good capture....excellent color and dof....

Great capture Amelia but I would brighten a little. Not having the contrast and shadows from direct sunlight is nice.

Good tip, Amelia, and an excellent example of why the tip makes sense. I agree that you could brighten it up a tad, but I like the detail and composition as is. Nicely shot.

very very nice, I like this shot but as Dub said maybe brighten up just a very little

Lovely colors, good focus...can see some pretty small details!

Nice shot Amelia. Cloudy days work well with flowers, also. Hope to see you soon.

i kinda like the darker muted color. i know the bright sun usually washes the flower out. you did good one this one.

i like that you learned something new and tried it out.
