Solar Halo...
Its been a long time since I have been here....popped in tonight, saw the weekly challenge...thought I would throw this one up. It was taken last Sunday in my backyard. Its called a solar halo or 22 deg halo...Sun
Rare Weather Phenomenon......

This is a rare Solar Halo that appeared in the sky today above Vancouver. Such halos appear when sunlight shines through ice-crystal clouds like cirrus. The dispersion of light as it is refracted by ice crystals can sometimes give solar halos red and blue coloration or sometimes in rare cases such as this one, a rainbow effect. This was not a lens flare or a filter...this is the way it looked to the naked eye.

"Best of 2006 Entry: Nature"

Vancouver was hit with a major windstorm on the evening of December 15th 2006 with winds reaching hurricane status...as the pretty much most of North America is suffering there own severe weather, Vancouver has had some amazing and scarey storms...14 in all since the first major one in December. Stanley Park, one of Vancouvers, if not Canada's icons suffered the brunt of the winds...forever changing the landscape of one of the Jewels of Vancouver. Trees that have stood in this park since the times of Christopher Columbus were torn to shreds by the power of Mother Nature. Although the park has lost approx 3000 - 4000 trees, most of them in the 75 - 200 year range...this is ultimatley Mother Natures way of doing a little house cleaning. Lets hope shes done for a while. We dont have much more to give her, especially our beloved Stanley Park.
The winds and snow even made the roof of our football stadium collapse...its been a wild ride.
...And winter is only half over...fasten your seatbelts...
Global Warming...Hmmmmmmm????

...and all the Trimmings...

Its been a while since I have posted...(and taken pics) ...been busy. I want to thank all of you who submitted images for the Look Down Challenge, there were some fantastic submissions and thanks for the opportunity to create the challenge...and of course thanks to Penny for this new challenge (great idea!!)...I actually had some time tonight to look around and find some of "our" family traditions....I hope you enjoy.
All of these items have become family traditons in one way or another since my daughter was born 8 years ago (painting with light was very handy with this challenge)

Challenge: Challenge: ......Look Down!!!

The Next Challenge is...Look Down.
Every day we walk...some of us miles, some just a few steps...the challenge is to capture some of the things that we take for granted and step over or above every day...whether it be the first thing we see when we get up in the morning or the walk up the stairs to work or perhaps it is part of your nightly walk or on the way to the grocery store. Whatever it is...we all get out of the house and go over things everyday so get out there....be creative and have fun with it....
Challenge: Submit 5 (or so) images of things that you take for granted and walk over everyday....
Cheers,
CJP
