Mostly Critters You Don't Want To Come in Contact With . . .
The butterflys shouldn't bother you but you probably want to stay away from the other critters . . .
All photos except the Camen were taken in the Butterfly House in St. Louis, MO last weekend. The butterflies were shot at 2000 ISO and the Camen at 3200 ISO; the others were all shot at 6400 ISO . . . Obviously No Flash.
The Color Blue . . .
From deep within the Henry Doorly Zoo Aquarium . . .
Quite a bit of noise but shot with the very little light that was available using a 100mm lense @ 1/160 @ 2.8 aperture & ISO 640.
Don't get too close . . . he might bite!
Bride of What Is It . . . .
Hope you all don't mind me throwing 5 photos out for the experts to chime in on; the challenge seems to be getting off to a slow start.
I can't speak to which one is the 'Bride' in photos 1 & 3 but I can assure you they are of the same species. They were also quite large as I couldn't get too close; the shots were made with a 200 mm lense.
If any of you are associated with hot air, you shouldn't have too much of a problem identifying image 6 . . . What is it-6.jpg
Image 7 is a little tougher . . . a hint . . . . it can be found in Independence, MO What is it-7.jpg
The last image (finally) has been filtered to make it a little tougher; Can you identify the photo and its location?
Photos for the 'Diagonal Challenge' . . .
From Gardens of the Johnson County, KS Arboretum
Photos 2 & 3 are from a regional kite festival that was held last week on a beautiful Saturday!
Photos 4-6 are various night shots of structures in downtown Kansas City.
Best of 2009: Wildlife/Animals - Eagle
This Bird of Prey was in fact in capativity . . . not at all an uncommon photo; however, it was shot through a black netting which I was able to essentially make disappear and the photo is pretty sharp.
The photo was taken on September 9, 2009 at the Topeka, KS Zoo with a Canon Xti. The ISO = 100; 1/400 Sec. f5.6 @ 340mm.
I was presented with a rare opportunity about 3-4 weeks ago. We had a family of nesting Cardinals just outside our kitchen window. A Cardinal chick had climbed on top of the burning red bushes just outside our kitchen window. I took the screen out, opened the window and proceeded to shoot a series of photos of the chick and the mother and presumably a sister feeding the chick. The father was observing from a distance and I didn't get any quality shots of him. The photos were taken with a 70-200mm lens from about 4' away . . . Not exactly people food; but the food was not specified!
Trip on a Cold Day to the Naples, FL Zoo
While visiting Ft Myers, FL in January we had a couple cold days (high 50's low 60's). We decided to drive to Naples and go to the zoo. Had a great time there; however, the high tempature for that day set a record low, consequently many of the animals were not out. Nevertheless, I think I got some acceptable shots. Most approach full frame, however, the last one is not. I though it was too good to omit.
I am newly born as a *** IMG_0769 copy.jpg ***
In the arms of the darkest plant
between the piercing thorns
Now..sleeping so silently…
Dreaming for a warm embrace.
With the desire for a softest touch..
And dew drops on pale eye brows
guarded by knife like thorns!!”
Day at the Zoo
Some photos as I walked around the zoo this past Saturday . . . Who gives a hoot?
I think this is my favorite . . . On Guard . . .
Wish I could have gotten a little more in focus but I think it looks a little like a drawing out of a Harry Potter movie Looking for dead meat . . .
