A mill located on the Roaring Fork motor trail in Gatlinburg

By Fabulos written 6/19/08 2:53 PM, published 6/19/08 2:55 PM

A couple of pictures taken back on a trip to the Smokies. The mill is located towards the end of the Roaring Fork motor trail. The trail is located at the edge of Gatlinburg. It was the same road that was taken when I seen the bears from the other post. If you ever go to the Smokies, I highly recommend this drive.

All 4 pictures were shot with a polarizing filter on the lens. I also hand held two split ND's stacked together in front of the lens.  The split ND's kept the sun from blowing out the top right of the picture. I believe I only did that on the last three pics.

For the nature lovers

By Fabulos written 6/4/08 4:22 PM, published 6/4/08 4:22 PM

Thanks to those that commented on that do hickey in the last post. I wondering what the heck the the balls on top of the pulley were for.

A couple pictures taken last week while on a trip to the smokies. The first is a picture of Gary  (my granddaughter named him after the snail on Sponge Bob).  It was taken with an extension tube. I finally picked one up but still need to get a set of Kenko's. The one I have is all manual and would not allow me to fire the flash.

Next is a deer  we came across in Cades Cove.

Last are a couple of bear  pictures. That was the momma and these are of the cubs  cubs. One of the cubs ran up a tree and looked directly at the camera. Unfortunately, the picture is blurry. I shot it at a high ISO of 1250 wide open at F2.8 but the 1/60 shutter speed was too slow for 80-200mm zoom set at the long end. missed shot : (

Challenge Entry

A couple for the challenge

By Fabulos written 6/3/08 4:51 PM, published 6/3/08 4:52 PM

Just a couple of snapshots. No need for a critique.

The first was taken because I thought the two balls on top of this pulley were interesting. I am curious as to what the heck they are used for. HG149

The second made me wonder what happens if you only need to use the bathroom for 5 minutes? HG98

Halloween pictures

By Fabulos written 11/2/07 1:19 PM, published 11/5/07 4:20 PM

These are the pictures of the grandkids on Halloween. Andrew, as always, is such a ham for the camera.

The first is of the school parade. Drew was Dracula and as he passed by I called out his name trying to get his attention.  In this picture he is looking for who is calling but the funny part is the kid in the Tigger outfit. The expression looks like he is not happy with the costume he has to wear. Kinda like Ralphie with bunny suite in a Christmas Story.

Before going out trick or treating we took Drew to the local cemetery for some pictures. He was all into it as Drewcula and wanted to go back when it was dark out??? This one of Drewcula's favorites.

One of Drew's friends is Anna. She was dressed up as Hanna Montanna.

I feel bad that I did not take as many of Isabelle but here are just a couple.

My favorite of the day is this one of  Drew . I have versions cropped to a vertical picture. I still like this one the best since you can see some of the decorations in the background.

I don't know what to name this picture. So I guess it will be simply Pelican.

Smokey San Diego

By Fabulos written 10/29/07 3:25 PM, published 10/29/07 8:26 PM

The following pictures were taken in San Diego last week. With all of the wild fires taking place the smoke presents some very unique opportunities. My prayers are with the families that have to endure these devastating fires.

The first was taken from Shelter Island looking towards San Diego in the morning.

The second is looking West towards the sunset taken the day before. It is a HDR composite in which the flag was processed to be brighter that what the background exposure would have allowed.

All comments and critiques are appreciated.

Trona Pinnacles Revisited

By Fabulos written 10/5/07 2:52 PM, published 10/8/07 8:12 AM

One of the first stories with absolutely fantastic pictures that I read on this site was of a post of the Trona Pinnacles located in the Mojave Desert. Trona is located about 2 hours and 45 minutes from Northern LA. After checking into the hotel I thought that I make the trek in hopes of catching the sunset lighting.  The pictures below were taken as I just arrived at 6:30 within minutes of each other.
