Inside Building 50 at the State Hospital
These shots are all in the basement of the largest building 50. In the end that is renovated.
Inside SH 1 Homemade soaps in the farm market
Inside SH 2 One of the many long halls.
Inside SH 3 Photo of the staff
Inside SH 6 Back in the day. The man who started the hospital believed "Beauty is Health" too bad they could use such aweful care. He had the right idea.
Inside SH 7 Photo of the grounds
Inside SH 8 A beautiful gate
Inside SH 9 This door is original. It is to a cooler. Which is now part of a nice flower shop. I love to go visit. I want to know what it used to be. My guess is part of the kitchen.
Inside Sh 10 Farmers market inside. This was an amish table I so wanted to get pics of this one little amish boy but couldn't pull it off....boo hoo
Inside SH 11 This makes me laugh. That they sold it as a place for romance.
Inside SH 12 I wonder what this metal door is too. It is very narrow
Inside SH 15 This door is also in the flower shop. It must be relocated there is no way it could slide open where it is.
Sorry so many
For these shots I pulled a boner move. I put my hand with my camera through a hole. Started snapping blind. Then pulled my hand and camera out and thought. "OMG I didn't have my strap attatched to me in any way." If I would have dropped my camera I would have been screwed. No way to get it out!!! Dumb dumb move. After that I made sure it was attatched to me
Not me peeking this is the kind of things we went through to see in any hole we found and I was taking pics in them.
I know some of the shots are off kilter. With the horizon talk I want to say that my reasoning is it works for this setting. I am a stickler usually for straight....lol
You asked for MORE I have lots and lots more.
TCSH gate 7 Some of these shots are not touched. I just think because of the interest in these buildings some of them should be shown.
TCSH Sign This is the sign that greets you when pulling in.
TCSH Fire Dept It strikes me funny that the Fire Dept. was so small for so many huge buildings
TCSH Fire Dept 2 Now renovated into a bakery
TCSH being renovated This is one of the back building that used to be maintenance buildings and machine shops if I am correct
TCSH Water tower When you come around to the back of some of the buildings you see this water tower and it truly reminds you of the start of a scarey movie!
TCSH security ha These are piles of a metal mess that they put over the broken out windows trying to keep vandals out. It doesn't work really well. These buildings are so vandalized it makes me sad. I would kill to get in but just to take pics not to vandalize. Bullet holes in roofs that you can see and spray paint everywhere. Sad.
TCSH Stacks of doors I have a strange obsession with old windows, doors and chairs. If I could only figure away to get these doors. They did have numbers on them and there were a lot of doors. Big heavy wooden doors. Oh the stories they could tell.
TCSH Burned I would guess this was vandalizm
TCSH Waiting These are the kinds of buildings I am interested in. But going into the shops of the renovated parts still amazes me and the feeling you get walking those halls. I would love to get into the tunnels that run from building to building!! I will post pics of the inside of the renovated building if you want to see.
TCSH Scale Not really sure what this was used for. I am still learning what several of the buildings are.
TCSH Signs The street signs are interesting to me. I know reading the forum the guys talk about the names of the different streets.
TCSH gate 1 One of my favorite subjects. This gate interests me so much.....
TCSH gate 3 I love the DOF in this shot if I do say so myself
TCSH gate 8 Stolen Someone stold some of the gate. Most likely for scrap. So sad
Have you had enough? I have lots more!
Peeking inside the Insane Asylum Traverse City Michigan State Hospital
I have over 400 pics in this set. So it is really hard to pick out the ones to post. So I hope you like what I have picked.
BTW these are mostly taken by me lifting my camera and shooting blind into windows. So there are some odd angles in them. But I think they work considering where they were taken......
TCH2 Oh I wish I could get in and roam these halls....
TCH3 I don't know what it is about this distorted shot but I love it. I think it is the feel of it and where it was taken
TCH4 The little boys room
TCH5 I think Cindy needs to come to Michigan so we can go shooting here!!
TCH6 Renovations starting.
TCH7 This is my favorite shot of the whole visit. It is very simple yet not when you think of people having to look at this and not having a choice to leave. Having to be kept behind these walls and I want to get in so bad. My husband told me I am a couple years too late. He would commit me....lol It closed in 1988. The year I graduated. When they closed it several of the people knew nothing else but living here. They just turned several out on the streets. They would break back in. They couldn't live outside the walls. They found them frozen daily for a while. Sad.
I remember growing up the joke was if you acted crazy "we are going to have to take you to Traverse City and get you a rubber room with the jackets full of buckles."
I wish these walls could talk.....
Traverse City State Hospital is a place I can not shake. I love it there. I want to know more. I would love to get inside. I have found a couple men that tell the stories from when they were boys in the hospital. I could spend tons of time there taking tons of pics. Here are some from our last trip there.
Trying to get back into it.....
I have had a crazy busy summer. When I took the following shots I was trying to cheer up a bit. My family had just went through a terrible terrible tragedy. Three of my cousins were in an accident. All were hurt but one didn't make it. A very beautiful vibrant 20 yr old who is going to be missed beyond belief. Both of the others have a very long road to getting better. One more mentally and more physically. My 16 yr old cousin is still in a wheel chair with a very long road ahead to recovery. The other is going to take even longer to get through this mentally. The whole thing still is not over. We are waiting to see what the state is going to do. Well enough about why I was taking such random shots. Here they are......
Introducing my newest critter Ziggy
Ziggy She is a Milligold Macaw. Cross between a Blue and Gold and a Military Macaw. She won't be 2 yrs old until October. We are her third home and last. I love her she is a crazy blue buzzard she keeps me on my toes. It is like having a 2yr old the rest of my life. What was I thinking? lol
Our Annual Sleigh Ride
The weather was perfect for the sleigh ride. No blizzards this year or fridged temps. I didn't get as many shots as I would have liked to. I was a bit preoccupied because the Sleigh Ride was also a surprise 40th birthday party for me!! We did have a great time though! So here is the one that I thought was postable here.
The thumb is from last year
I Hate When This Happens
I actually got my son to let me take pics of him. They were sooo blown out yet still good shots. So I tried to salvage them. With color I couldn't do it. But in B&W I managed to come out with okay final shots. Plus he loved them! There is something to be said for that.
So keeping in mind these are shots that I was salvaging have a look and let me know what you think
