Thought I'd stop by to say "Hi"....

There always seems to be a shortage of shots of people, so I thought I'd post a few from the last few weeks. Hope you like them.
And if you're saying to yourself, "I'd love to take pics of people, but I don't have a willing guinea pig"... two words.... Model Mayhem .... Look it up. Its free, and there are thousands of wanna-be models looking to hook up with us wanna-be photographers and take some pics. Its a beautiful thing. That's where all my free time has been spent this whole year.
Okay, let's see if I can remember how to post....
Beautiful Fall Day and Sandi

Sandi, who I'd just met, was a trooper, because it was about 40 degrees when we started, maybe 50 by the end. (Okay, to you northerners, that's warm for mid-November, but to us Georgians, it's kinda cold to be standing by a river.)
More Art, Less Sleaze
Renea

Renea and I like to get together from time to time and experiment with shots. We had some specific things in mind this day, but those shots are a little more risque than are usually posted here, so you don't get to see those. (Sorry...)
But here are a few tame ones that I think came out pretty good. My Telecaster is in a couple of shots.
Later, we went to a lake to take a few casual shots.
Then when we were being even more tame, a not-so-friendly park ranger ran us off for not having a permit. But it was getting dark anyway.
Jacqueline - Later That Night

We wanted to try some shots with a long exposure mixed with the flash. Here are the results. The fountain shots aren't as sharp as I'd like, but lets see you try to get someone to stand perfectly still for a second and a half!
Jacqueline

Over this summer, I've been at war with myself and my introversion. I really hated to approach people and ask to take their picture. But then I realized just how much better a "portrait" could be than a "candid" when I stumbled upon this shot and a few others which I posted months ago.
So I started trying to take pics of some friends, but there were always complications. I decided to face my fears head on and contact some girls who are interested in modeling. (Gasp, strangers!!) So now my hobby has become fashion photography, and I am COMPLETELY in love with this!! I don't know if I'll do it for the next 40 years or just the next few weeks, but that doesn't matter. I'm not only improving my photography, but my social skills as well. (Imagine that.)
Also, I got a better lens than I had been using. It's a Sigma 24-60mm f2.8, and MAN, is it sharp. Wow. (I can count freakin eyelashes now....)
Here are a few from last weekend at Centennial Park in Atlanta, going slow so as not to overwhelm you....
State Botanical Gardens, Athens Ga

Yesterday I went to the State Botanical Garden in Athens, Ga. It was absolutely terrific! I know I should have written down the names of these plants but I'm just not that organized. I know they had some beautiful orchids, lillies, and pitcher plants.
These flowers faced
the wrong way. (Looking up)
Silicone, Glitter, and Double-Sided Tape

Okay, so only about half of them are fake, but it always seems to be the ones that win.....
By popular demand, I braved yet another Hooters swimsuit contest. I didn't want to do it, but I sacrificed for the common good of Photographica members.
I actually have some shots of a few of them in "club wear" that are so revealing that you can see the aforementioned double-sided tape holding everything in, but I decided at the last moment that it wasn't in the best of taste to post here. (But I will consider bribes...)
On with the festivities....

Hooters Swimsuit Contest

These are semi-NSFW. Your boss may not like them, but it's okay if the kids see them.
I needed some practice with my flash in low light conditions, so how could I pass this one up?!?
These were all taken with a Nikon D50 and SB-600 flash. ISO 400, f/5.6'ish, which put exposure around 1/45-1/90 --- not the greatest with a telephoto.
I'm thinking of going to another one and trying ISO 800 and maybe a few 1600, although sometimes the grain is a bit much.
(Hmmm, did any of them read all of that??)
These are all runway shots, and I had a bunch of drunk rednecks all around me, so it was hit-or-miss. All in all, I had better success than expected though. About a third of the shots came out pretty good.

Beautiful Strangers

So, with new found strength to battle my introversion, I went BACK to Ren Fest and approached lots and LOTS of people. (Okay, mostly just the cute ones, but that made it a bit easier, too.) I got a lot of good pics this time. I still made some stupid mistakes in some, but I was a bit nervous.
Bottom line is, thanks to you guys for making me get out of my comfort zone.
On the first shot, I was buying a Diet Coke from this girl and asked if I could take her picture. She said, "MEEE?!?!?" and her face LIT UP like I completely made her day. I would have thought she'd been asked all the time.
