Synchro shot

By Snowflake written 6/24/06 9:17 AM, published 6/24/06 9:17 AM
At 12 noon I was working on matting some humming bird shots I got a while back.  I keep switching matts and frames back and forth, unable to make up my mind.  I put my watch there to show the time but it is not very clear.  At least I remembered.  LOL. Popup Linkundecided

After the Rain

By Snowflake written 6/24/06 7:07 AM, published 6/24/06 7:07 AM

Hello everyone.  It has been a while since I was here due to illness.  I think I am on the road to recovery at last.  I have learned to take life in baby steps.  After a rain the other day I was able to snap a couple of photos before it started again.
Here is a wet Popup Linkrosebud.  These ones look like a mirror image but they are two  Popup Linkwhite roses.
It looks like I made it back just in time for the scynchronized challenge again.  Fun stuff.

Joining in on the Theme at last

By Snowflake written 5/17/06 10:56 AM, published 5/17/06 10:56 AM

Hello everyone.  Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes yesterday.  My family really pulled one on me by coming from out of town with cake, gifts, and flowers for me.  They brought our 87 year old mom with them. I was thrilled.
We had sunshine at last and I was able to get a couple of pics that fit the theme of Natural Light.
The first is an  Popup Linkold fence post.  We are finally at the stage of cherry blossoms, leaves and green grass. This Popup Linkblossom was taken at 7 a.m.  Then this morning I saw the light coming through the patio door on my   Popup Linkbirthday flowers.  It is not as sharp as I thought it would be.  However, that is my contribution to the theme.

Synchronicity

By Snowflake written 5/13/06 9:49 AM, published 5/13/06 9:49 AM
Wow I actually did it!!!!  First I brought up the Time Zone chart to make sure I had the correct time.  I even thought of aiming at the computer so I did a trial run with this result.Popup LinkTime Chart.
Then I still had a while to go so I went and started getting some tatting shuttles ready for a new project.  Some of my threads had gotten tangled in my tatting bag so I worked on straightening them out and all of a sudden the warning alarm was going off just before twelve.  I ran into the computer room, grabbed my camera, and forgot all about my plan to take a photo of the time chart, counted down the seconds with the clock and snapped my work table instead.Popup LinkSynchro shot

Can't wait to see the others.
I was using my Minolta Dimage camera set on automatic.  That was fun.

Signs of our times

By Snowflake written 3/27/06 8:03 AM, published 3/27/06 8:03 AM
Sun is shining, snow is melting, so with a "spring" in my step I set out to find some signs.  The first one is one that friends and neighbours see when they open my door.Popup LinkEntry sign
When I saw the next one I figured I had found out where Moosey went.  Popup LinkMoose Crossing?
Seagullchuck and I were down by our old school digging up  memories.  When we were kids, we had to walk to school, through sleet and snow and cold and...
I figure this sign is older than I am.  Popup LinkLoading zone My paint is not peeling as badly though ;-)
We have a population of approximately 400 people counting cats and dogs, but I swear, right now we have at least 400 electric company trucks in town... at least...I wouldn't exaggerate...well maybe just a tad...but  they are marking old poles with this sign. Popup Linkhydro pole I guess they figure the tape will hold them together for another hundred years.
Lastly, I finally got to mileage zero..or in our case Kilometer zero...but where the heck am I? Am I coming or going?  Heck, at my age it doesn't matter anymore, as long as I am moving.
Popup Linkin the bush somewhere
That is my contribution for today.

Lighthouse reflection

By Snowflake written 3/25/06 9:45 AM, published 3/25/06 9:45 AM
Hello again.  Due to winter and other circumstances, this theme just wasn't meant to be for me.  The artistic brain would not kick in for some reason.  I thought I would get in under the wire with this little reflection.  Seagull and I were out one day, when we thought it was going to be a wonderful spring shoot.  Well, we darn near froze our shutters off in the North wind.  However, we did find evidence of spring, as shown in this small river that has opened up some.  This little Popup Linklighthouse is in the middle of the Blanche River in a park called Firemen's park, in a town near here.  That is it for my theme contribution.  Aw well, there is always the next one.

A question about using Mozilla

By Snowflake written 3/15/06 1:25 PM, published 3/15/06 1:25 PM

Has any one every lost their bookmarks while using Mozilla Firefox?  I have lost mine twice and it is getting annoying.  They are there one day and the next day they are not.  If they are hiding somewhere I cannot find them.  I had a great list of photography sites and now they are in cyberspace somewhere.

More architecture...Country Style

By Snowflake written 3/8/06 1:03 PM, published 3/8/06 1:03 PM
Yesterday my brother came to visit me.  We don't get together often enough to suit either of us so we jumped in the car and made the most of the day.  He has posted on here before as SeagullChuck, I believe.
Anyway we drove down a rural road and found thisPopup Linkbarn, that had seen better days.  Later we found this  Popup Linkone that we would have loved to have gotten closer to.  Neither of us had snowshoes and the snow is much to deep to walk across the field.  Then I took this Popup Linkred barn which had a electric pole dead center of it but I took out the pole and wires.
Later on we came to a little park in a town near here.  This Popup Linkshelter caught my eye with its overhang of snow.  Then through the trees I spotted some red.  It was this Popup Linklook out with sun shining through the ice on the roof.  Late in the afternoon we came back to my home and I wanted to show you this Popup Linkshed but the snow got in the way.  SIGH.  Spring is coming, spring is coming, spring is coming...

Architecture??? Welllllllll...

By Snowflake written 3/1/06 4:42 PM, published 3/1/06 4:42 PM
Okay, here goes my attempt at the theme.  This is definitely not sky scrapers or beautiful bridges and buildings.  I was standing on a bridge (where I wasn't supposed to be) trying to take a decent photo of this old Popup Linkbridge, when  I felt the bridge I was on start to shake and suddenly the blast of the horn of a logging truck let me know the driver was not happy with where I was. I scrunched myself as far to the side as I could. (No easy feat)  When he went past me I got off of there asap.  Later I went to the place known as Floating Bridge.  When I first moved here as a child, we actually crossed over a bridge that floated.  It was tippy and the scariest thing I had ever done in my short life.  Now this Popup LinkBaily Bridge has replaced the old floating one; it was built as a temporary bridge in the fifties and is still there.
In the afternoon I discovered another kind of architecture.  A man, who was fed up with the snow, built a Popup Linksnow fort all around his house. He said he has no more room to put the snow so he had to go up.
I stopped to have coffee at a camp  restaurant and this old log Popup Linkcottage was one of the first buildings built in town.  It is too bad they painted over the logs and modernized the windows from what they were.
Well that is it for today.  I tried.

Another Question about Lomo

By Snowflake written 2/26/06 7:42 AM, published 2/26/06 7:42 AM

Now that I am starting to understand how to use Lomo a bit, I would like to know if  the word Lomo is an acronym?  If so what does it stand for?
Thanks

My first attempt at still life

By Snowflake written 2/13/06 9:39 AM, published 2/13/06 9:39 AM
Well, here is my attempt.  I am not too artisic when it comes to arranging things for a still life.  Not knowing really where to start, I happened upon a loose weave basket that I used for a backdrop.  Then I decided on some brass, pewter, jade along with shiny material and gauzy stuff.
I throw it out to you.

I can really learn from this.  Will try more another day.

What I am dealing with this weekend

By Snowflake written 2/11/06 4:57 AM, published 2/11/06 4:57 AM

This is the second time I have written this little story.  I royally messed it up the first time.  I think that the Popup Linksnowbanks are getting to me. My neighbours' house is back there somewhere.
Yesterday afternoon I walked up to the lookout to show you what our little town looks like nestled in the valley amongst the hills.  Well, this
Popup Linkbank of snow was in my way.  I am almost five foot ten and could not see over it.  The town is down there somewhere.
I decided to walk on the snowmobile trail  (which is not allowed) Popup Linksign.  I braved the wrath of snowmobilers so I could show you a picture of a pretty creek which is gorgeous in winter.  Well guess what?  Even though it was fast moving, it has been too cold and the creek Popup Linkfroze .  I gave up and went home.  Not good pictures I know, but I will find SOMEthing this winter that is photo worthy.

My turn to experiment

By Snowflake written 2/8/06 7:55 PM, published 2/8/06 7:55 PM

I have been experimenting with various hints I have been reading about,  what do you think?
Thanks for all the learning we can do here.
Popup Linkbirds of a feather at sunrise
I think I brightened up the birds too much, it was sunrise but they are not quite that dark.

Popup Linkspider tunnel
I didn't know spiders made tunnels.  I spied this one last fall.  The colours I used around the edges are not quite what I had in mind but I am too tired to change it.

Let it snow

By Snowflake written 2/5/06 8:36 AM, published 2/5/06 8:36 AM

We got hit with a blizzard during the night.  Over one foot of snow has fallen with another foot expected.  I snapped a picture of the Popup Linkgrader ploughing in front of my place.  Then I took a picture of the  Popup Linkschool across the road.  You can hardly see it for the snow.
Guess I had better start shovelling.
