Spring is Early
Spring will be colorful this year. We've had lots of precipitation this winter and the flowers are just itching to grow. In fact, some have already started. These Shop Window

Seattle Mural/Street Scene

This is one of my favorite murals. It's in downtown Seattle on first street I think. I thought I might crop out a lot of the surrounding scene. I decided in the end to leave it all in. I think it adds something overall.
I used to live in Seattle. I regret leaving all the time. Going back soon to stay!
Spring Sunset from Orcas Island

On this visit, the wind never stirred once and the water was like glass. The only waves were caused by boats cruising by infrequently in the distance. Little fish jump near the shore and catch insects. They're so small that they barely make a ripple in the water.
It's very quiet here. When I get up and walk along the gravel beach, the noise of my footsteps seems really loud. It's a funny-crunchy sound.
Target Practice

This target hangs from a Pinion pine tree in the Nevada high desert. It's just some piece of junk full of bullet craters, but I found it very striking.
I thought of the people who had been at this spot before me. They had guns and, judging by the litter all around me, they had beer. I snapped my photo and walked off thinking, "They probabaly never even saw how pretty this place is."
I walked around a large outcropping of rock, into a shady area. There I saw a mountain goat, which had been killed and then burned. It had the appearnce of some ritual sacrifice, except, again, for the beer cans.
What a weird place....
Orcas Island, Wasington in February

Except for those who live there, Orcas Island is a place for retreat. I love to go there at times when nobody else will be around, except of course E, who goes with me everywhere. It is an escape, truly, from life as it is ANYWHERE else. It is 55-or-so square miles of alternate reality.
This picture was taken about 50 feet from our cabin, which sits back behind the tree line. The wind was blowing really hard down the beach and the clouds were rushing by. It was my last shot before going inside to escape the cold.
The surf was so noisy on that trip! I dodn't sleep the entire weekend! I will most certainly bring earplugs the next time I go in winter.

Reno Bestsellers

This convenience store window is on the main drag of Reno, right in the heart of "everything". There are several stores like this all within a few blocks, scattered amid the casinos.
These stores sell all the usual items like snacks, sodas, and film for my camera. Looking around the store though, one quickly realizes that there are only three big-selling items in here: porn, tobacco, and alcohol.
