Hiking in the Gospel Hump Wilderness

By Subdude written 8/27/06 6:14 PM, published 8/27/06 6:14 PM

We live in such a beautiful place, only an hour and a half from our house is the begining of the Gospel Hump Wilderness. Together with two other Wildernesses it makes up the largest wilderness area in the US.  I had never actually ventured out into until a couple of weeks ago , cause I was lazy and if you couldn't drive there I wouldn't go.  My wife and I have been on a health kick this summer and together have lost 100 pounds, so we decided to go hiking.  Im sure glad we did. Its an easy three mile hike down the mountain to the lake, the hard part is climbing the entire way back.  Anyway, these are some pics that I love from it.  The tree one won 2nd place at the fair last week.Popup Linka different lake, Popup LinkMoores Lake , Popup LinkTree

Redo of Denver Cemetery

By Subdude written 4/24/06 9:52 PM, published 4/24/06 9:52 PM

I thought I might be able to do a better job if I shot the Cemetery at dusk instead of afternoon, because of the lighting. So I planned to go out there this evening, then it got cloudy, but it gives the pictures a whole different feel, which maybe is more appropriate for a cemetery.  I also found the old flour mill that is the only remnant building of the town.  I thought the cemetery was it but finally found this about a mile away.  I've also included a panoramic veiw of Whitebird.

A Flower, A Fall, and A Cemetery

By Subdude written 4/23/06 9:13 PM, published 4/23/06 9:13 PM
I went out looking for Elk yesterday, scaled the side of a mountain and then didn't find any. A guy told me he had seen some there, but I had no such luck.  I did find a flower that was cool and a waterfall.  Today I went to Denver Idaho, which is no more. Once it was a promising pioneer town, but now all that remains is the cemetery. Kinda symbolic I think.

Can Boats Fly? And Strangers

By Subdude written 4/15/06 9:37 PM, published 4/15/06 9:37 PM

I went to the Jet Boat races today on the wicked rapids of the Salmon River here in Idaho. It was rainy but the pics were worth it.  I also included some strangers who were watching, some from under the bridge.

Portraits of Youth

By Subdude written 3/30/06 3:52 PM, published 3/30/06 3:52 PM

Here's some more pics of my kids and niece and nephew.  I was taking them for an assignment for school.  I really like the effect of the backlighting in the outside ones.  I also wonder if I should make the one where my son is being a Photographer into a painting or something.

Location Portraits

By Subdude written 3/12/06 8:18 AM, published 3/12/06 8:18 AM
I had an Assignment to do a location portrait, showing the subjects personality by the location and the things around them.  So I picked on my wife again and took this portrait of her in her scrapbook room.  Popup LinkScrappy Then I softened it in photoshop, I liked it but she says her skin is pale in Popup Linkthis one.  My dog also uses her scrapbook room, she likes to lay in front of the south facing sliding door to do some Popup Linksunbathing, but she gets  mad when you interupt her  Popup LinkReading time.

News from the War on Terror

I don't know about you guys, but I get really sick of the media only showing bad news and homicide bombers on the news.  I heard of this site on xm radio: http://www.defendamerica.mil
it's news from the dept. of defense and I found a page that has slideshows from military photographers:http://www.defendamerica.mil/specials/CombatCamera.html

There are some awesome pics in there.
