A year ago or so I posted some shots of an artists work I ran across on a back road in the edge of Paradise. I have always wanted to ask the person who put such cool works on the side of his property, To allow me to get past his iron gate and shoot some of his works. I know now that that won't happen. His property was also hit by the Humbolt fire.
Here are a few shots of the iron that didn't burn. A shame his house wasn't made of iron.....it and his outter buildings were lost.
Seems we are in danger again from a new fire. Yesterday a freak thunder storm came through this area. We had over 70 strikes of lighting. There seems to be two fires just to the east of our town. I just got back from a look out point and the fire is on our side of the next ridge. Seconds ago I opened my door to get the dog in and there was a very strong smell of smoke. We'll see what tomorrow will bring....hopefully north east winds.
As of now there are said to be hundreds of fires in northern California, 24 right here in my county.
If only a gate could really keep out wicked things..Gate

Our area was one of the many spots in the worlds that have had events change the way you think about everyday things. From tornadoes, floods, earth quakes, fires and the list goes on, the list of horrible events that change peoples lives. We were very lucky....do to the many brave men and women who fight fires. Only 74 homes lost and one life. It could have been so much worse. Here are only a few of of shots taken yesterday and at the start of the fire.Humblot fire
Thanks to all you brave firefighters...
Would someone please sit with me...it looks so lonely....bench

softballs .....no coment on the size of my balls please!

Not what you think. In these times of ever rising gas prices, I've decided to do something I thought I'd never do again........ride a motorcycle.....well a scooter that is. It's been over 20 years since I have ridden a motorcycle. Due to my back problems I gave it up....but times have changed and a once geekie (or European look) is going to come back strong. After all for just around town, 65 miles to the gallon is a good idea.

I didn't get two many chances to take photo's of this huge fire that has almost trapped us here up on the ridge.
These were taken as I drove home from the Restaurant to load up the important stuff to run off with...to safety.
