  • Biography

Beth is a retired educator who moved back to Maine with her husband where she grew up and still has family. Her daughter and granddaughter joined them last July, so it's now a family!

Beth is a semi-pro stock photographer who is looking for other photographers working in stock with whom to kibbitz about the business and photography.

  • Artist's Statement

Family albums will someday be rich sources of ethnographic information. Most families
collect photographs. They are the stock and trade of our collective memory in this Western culture.

I am a transplanted New Englander to Western Pennsylvania (and back again). I started taking photographs in order to share my new home with family in New England who were so anchored to the soil that
they would never come here to see our beautiful city. I took photos of places with the
puzzle of how to capture it so that people who had never seen it could truly experience it!

The world is around us every day, but do we really see it? Most of us go through our daily
routines without seeing, as if asleep. I hope to capture the world I inhabit so that people
may see things they might otherwise have missed or to see ordinary things in extraordinary
    ways.

I have always enjoyed perusing photography collections that told stories about people
and places; that took the ordinary and made it extraordinary. Just as poetry helps us re-
experience emotions and events in ways that we might not otherwise have, photography can
call us back visually. I hope that by stopping time with the snap of a shutter, I can
capture my world in a capsule called 'photograph.' I hope that people will look at my photographs and say, "I know/knew that," re-experience it, interpreted in a new way or perhaps truly see it for the first time!
