Yellowstone animals

While the weather was lousy at Yellowstone National Park last week, I did manage to get 'close and personal' with a few of it's animal denizens. For example:
There were quite a few of accessible herds of bison roaming around.
There was this sad coyote who still had the quills in his face from a recent run-in with a porcupine.
Herds of elk were everywhere, and in dangerously close quarters with people.
And there was the male and female moose couple, constantly being followed by photographers with giant telescoping lenses.

On my most recent excursion to Lake Mead, I got there fairly early, and caught these ducks slowly gliding across one of the bays.

Among all the other animals seen:
The Baboon Island is always a favorite with the kids.
A nice shot of a tiger , or may the tiger's nice shot of me.
Funny that you can find a butterfly at the butterfly exhibit .

Old bridge details and an observatory

Near my house there is an old, concrete bridge next to the new 4 'four lanes of high speed death' road. It's not really new, it's just that the old bridge is obviously much older. Anyway, it's got these neat reliefs of lions on it. Here's a close up of one of the lions, and a full shot of the other lion.

And then in my travels, I just happened across the Harper College observatory at close to sunset with a clear blue sky behind it.

It took a while, but at least one of the three baby robins was nice enough to pose for me.
And my experimentation continues in mimic-ing the Harris Shutter Effect by combining three photos in Photoshop using the EXCLUDE layer setting.

Low water levels at Lake Mead

Due to a drought happening in the Southwest for the past year or so, the water levels at Lake Mead have dropped considerably. Boat ramps have been shut down since they are now sitting high and dry, and you can now walk around the buoys at some places where only boats could float to.

Also, some interesting things apparently have started to surface, like just how did this car get here ?

drained pond

They've been draining a pond near my house, so I've been going over there every so often to see if I can get some good wildlife photos (lots of egrets and cranes). Unfortunately, those birds rather skittish. But have been able to get a few others.

Out on a small island which I was finally able to walk to, you can find three or four duck eggs scattered about, sadly unhatched. Or maybe they are Canadian Goose eggs, I'm not sure.

My grandmother doing the dishes.

They are going to be rebuilding then train tracks near my bike riding trail soon, apparently.

Arizona Memorial

Sadly, at the memorial, most people just take pictures of the sunken ship itself, and they never seem to look up and notice the somber, yet strong, architecture. It's too bad; most people don't really think of what it is, which is a tomb.
