First, you have to admit, these are the cutest brother and sister you have ever seen.  (Except for your own children, of course.)  I caught a great snapshot of them by the tree.

I made an 8x10 of all the kids for the family.

The kids' parents are getting married on New Year's Day...so I made this card for them to send to family that are from out of state.  Christmas Card 2.  Chris joked she didn't want people to come to the wedding and not recognize the groom.

Lucky for me, a friend got a new camera and even let me play with it for a day.  (Okay, she kept close eye on me, for fear I would head out of Dodge.)

Kay set this setting up for me.  The only thing she didn't do was push the button on the camera.  This is my after Emily.  Thanks Kay!

I, also, made a portrait for a friend.  Before1 Before background.  After Skyeler

I made a Christmas card for a friend.  Before Chris and Colby before family Final Project (sorry I don't know how to do scrollbars...click control-n...)

Your Typical Wednesday

Work was driving me bananas so I was very happy to leave work.  I had my handy-dandy grocery list and was ready for a romantic dinner at home.

Unfortunately, it was cold outside, and I was feeling lazy, so we opted for carry-out instead.  We got home, and threw off our unneeded articles of clothing.

So instead of candles and roses, we settled for pizza and beer.  Instead of staring lovingly at each other, we watched a little television.

Mike had a few chores to do and I needed to clip coupons and clean up our mess.

Oh yes...and Mike got a phone call saying he was a new grandfather.  You know, your typical Wednesday.

Challenge: Theme #20 - Rule of Thirds

jojames1
2126
from Nov 18, 2005, to Dec 02, 2005
Alas, young basket-boy Jeffery's theme has passed.  We shall all give him tribute everytime we see a laundry basket.

This week's theme is going to be a little more educational.  I hope this theme will be good practice for the novice and veterans alike.  This week's theme is the Rule of Thirds (as opposed to the rule of fifths - salute and pass the tequila).

One of the most popular "rules" of photography is the Rule of Thirds.  It works like this:  Imaginary lines are drawn dividing the image both horizontally and vertically.  You place important elements of your composition where these lines intersect.

As well as using the intersections, you can arrange areas into bands along the lines (across the top, left third etc.)  You want to stay away from the middle of the image (like dead center or center of top row).  (better image)

The Rule of Thirds helps produce nicely balanced, easy on the eyes pictures.  It helps keep from having a tiny centered subject surrounded by white/unused space.

POSTING RULES

  1.  Photo must be taken within the theme period (11/18 thru 12/2)
  2.  Photo must not be manipulated beyond simple editing (cropping, contrast or light balance)
Have fun and "Color Outside the Lines."

Oh, by the way.........drum roll please............ our next grand, outstanding, and yes, humbling thememeister shall be no other than..........the anticipation is killing you, isn't it........The Lens Cap is passed to The One, The Only (God I hope so), Mr. Wind in My Face and Waves at My Feet - he's hanging ten and burning down the house - SurferGuy (I shall pray for everyone's soul.)

Stanley came to visit me.  I'll have no free-loaders in my house...so

Stan Goes to Workforce
Interview
Stan gets hired
Stan's paperwork
meets teamleader

Stanley did great for the first few days of work...but he has since called in for a papercut.  We taped him back up, but he claims it still hurts...he is now filing a Worker's Compensation claim...in Missouri it means he has a right to an attorney....Stan is starting to get on my nerves.  He better shape up, or it's the shredder for him!

(Jellybean, don't take him away!)

I frightened a few people taking these photos...my husband ran away, my daughter-in-law pretended not to know me, the sales staff stared, and customers whispered...grr 01 grr 02 grr 03

Of course, I looked like this.  Why would they run?

Tribute....

Six months ago I was sitting in my house bored and cleaning the house.  Then....along came Mrs. N.

I met KayN through work.  Her husband works at the same plant I do (boss) and he is the greatest person on earth.  (Has anyone seen my chapstick?  I'd hate to kiss his butt with cracked, dried lips.)

I was asked by her husband to help her get her camera (Sony Mavica Piece of Crap) set up on her computer.  So I traveled into the land of Kay.  While there, I taught her how to deal with customer service representatives and she made a lasting impression on me with her crazy 1/2-sweet 1/2-onery attitude.

Soon, I was buying my own Sony Mavica Piece of Crap camera (did I mention this camera is a piece of poo?) and packing away my old 35mm.  Back in the summer KayN finally convinced me to try out this website (after threatening to have me fired if I didn't).

Now here we are six months forward with plenty of "theme"work to do, and a very dusty home.  Not only is Kay a great friend to have in your corner (don't cross her), a fun person to have over for dinner (she always brings the beer), a patient person (as I complain about my Sony Mavica Piece of Crap) she is a true inspiration...let's face it, she has made some magical pictures while limited to a piece of poo camera.

Thanks, Kay!

I saw this in a magazine and had to try it for myself.  First I cut out part of the pic, to leave normal.  Then I turned up the brightness on the original and created a faded frame.  I added a white or blue border to the original cut out and placed back in the photo.  I then added text and saved.  I think they are very cute.
