My Main Street is probably very simialar to many Main Streets across the U.S. A place hopefully for people to congrigate and meet.
Holly Springs is one of the old southern towns that didn't change from the 1800's, (actually around 1830)until recently. By recently I mean in the last Oh 15 years!
Our main street is lucky in that we have new shinny buildings mixed in with some grand old buildings!
This challenge has been difficult. SO many photos I could take. But are they really Main Street?
Here is my Main Street. Our new Town Hall in Holly springs North Carolina!
Around the corner is the Police station One of our older buildings that has been renovated and reused. At one time it was the Train Depot/U.S. Post Office and General store in Holly Springs.
Let's continue to the back of Town Hall
as you can see we really like our Town Hall building. It was designed to be impressive even from the back street, I think it is.
Across the parking lot the new shopps are waiting to service the town with a bank, ice creamery, pizza palor and other services to come
My favorite building in Holly Springs is "The Mims House" circa 1840's This grand old home is on the National Registry of Antebellum Homes. It has
recently been purchased by an indivdual Who will be renovating it completely and offering it as banquet and reception venues for the public. We the resendents cannot wait. I can't help but imagine how many couples have snuck-out of one of the many Balls held here for a moon-light kiss!
The third floor has an original ball room that is to be a major part of the renovation. If these walls could talk what would they say!"please put me back the way I was; I miss the lovers"
This beauty is the home of Dewer's Antiques and Florist. The owner, Larry, is one of our towns great personalities and only the 2nd owner of the building! the shop is an archive of wonderful objects! This is a story for another day!
In finishing our tour of Holly Springs let's not forget our newest addition and a first in the county of Wake
Our Library and Cultural Center.
for a town that only about 15 years ago has a population of around 6000 residents, it has grown to almost 16000!this is the fastest growing town in North Carolina.I know the residents will keep the charm of this fabulous tiny spec on the map. We love our town! Look for more stories about her!
