catching the wind yesterday and in days past...

By lifeonfilm written 5/12/08 5:43 PM, published 5/12/08 5:43 PM

2 weeks after we had a rain/wind/hail storm, we had another one just like it yesterday. Not really much for showing the wind but I thought I would share anyway. Also, since it will be my 3 year Photographica anniversary, I thought I would post the very first shot that I posted here. And believe it or not it would be good for this challenge and was taken in Buggin's neck of the woods. Lol, I didn't realize that I was coming up on 3 years til I looked at my profile.windsurfer_sunset Hail_1 Hail_2

Late morning moon...

By lifeonfilm written 10/30/07 4:43 PM, published 10/30/07 4:43 PM

I haven't posted in a while. I took the opportunity to grab a daylight moon shot late this morning. I never have gotten a great moon shot, mostly because I've never really had a lens long enough to do it justice (still don't,lol). This was with a 300mm. It's kinda blah so I also decided to play with it some in photoshop for a few minutes.

If the big scene isn't what you want.... Isolate!

Look to the small_falls1 when the big falls are trashy or crowded! I mean just not photogenic, hopefully not actually trashy. Zoom in and find miniature scenes within the scene. It makes for hours of relaxing time in one spot.small_falls2 small_falls3 small_falls4 small_falls5

Larger this time....

This will be my first posting in a while and I haven't done one since the new site changes. I posted these pier shots quite some time ago, but several comments were made that they would look better if larger. I said I would make them larger, but hadn't done it. So, since I haven't been shooting much for awhile, I thought I would enlarge them and use it to try out the new site system. Hope you enjoy!

Challenge - Natural Light

By lifeonfilm written 5/7/06 1:03 PM, published 5/7/06 1:03 PM
I went out to the park to shoot some flower closeups. As there was a light wind, I was limited in what I could shoot. Anyway, here is one of the non-swaying ones (Popup Linkbloom)for the challenge.

As far as the top 3 part of it goes, it's hard to narrow down. You like different shots for different reasons. Here are 3 of my favorites that were posted here once before.

  1. Popup LinkFirewater was taken in a 5 minute time period when the light hit just right.
  2. Popup Linkwindow light is inside of the Currituck lighthouse on the NC outerbanks. I just like the feel of it.
  3. Popup LinkMtn. stream Again, I just like the feel it has to it.
Here is a shot that I was messing around with to finish up the roll before processing (Popup LinkWhat is it?) Any idea?

Good site for us nature lovers......

By lifeonfilm written 3/4/06 8:07 AM, published 3/4/06 8:07 AM
Here is another of my water shots from the NC mountains. Also, the site for a NC photographer that started like most of us....just having a fascination with picking up a camera and shooting the outdoors...specifically water. I bought his first book about 12 years ago. I had never heard of him, but the book was about shooting NC waterfalls, so it caught my eye immediately. As coincidences usually happen, I took the book to work at that time( a custom photo lab) and showed it to a friend. Lo and behold,he new the guy and his family as he grew up near them. Funny how that works. Anyway,if you like to shoot the outdoors, especially around water, mountains, beach I recommend you check out his site. Rainy day scanning....

By lifeonfilm written 2/11/06 2:30 PM, published 2/11/06 2:30 PM
As it's a cold rainy day here today, I thought I would do some scanning. All of these are from Niagra Falls(Canadian side) except for the last shot. It was a gray day when I shot there too. Da Popup Linkfalls. There was a cable car you could ride out across the river for some cools views ( don't know if it's still there). Starting out..Popup Linkhere we go...what the bird saw.. Before digital....

In following Rockadee's lead on showing our pre-digital equipment.... here's mine. Actually, as I don't have a digital SLR yet, this is still my main body for the most part. I, too, would like to see others show theirs, so to speak. Popup LinkOld tank

More old shots....

By lifeonfilm written 9/17/05 1:28 PM, published 9/17/05 1:28 PM
I'm still looking through old negs and came across these shots. Quality isn't the best as they are negs made from slides along time ago. That makes them 3rd generation after scanning them in, so I had to sharpen them somewhat. Anyway, thought I would share. First 2 are from Lake Lure in NC mtns. Gettin' close

By lifeonfilm written 8/27/05 4:26 PM, published 8/27/05 4:26 PM
Well, I decided to head back to the memorial garden nearby for the new assignment. The only film I had was years out of date( kept in fridge)! I figured let's just see what I get out of it. The color had done some shifting and the local 1 hour did a fairly crappy job of printing, so I just scanned the negs and tried to balance them ( It wasn't easy). Anyway here goes:Popup Linkfountain edge  Popup Linkcloser edge  Popup Linkpink  Popup Linkyellow  Popup Linkyellorange  Popup Linkyelorange 2

Unofficial mini-travelogue

By lifeonfilm written 8/13/05 1:47 PM, published 8/13/05 1:47 PM
Even though I haven't been able to get out and shoot for awhile I thought I would give you a not by the rules taste of my area(I live in Concord,NC and work in Charlotte). So,I have a few pics from both spots. These were taken with a point n shoot camera that I was trying out at the time. From my living town are these shots from a Popup Linkmemorial garden with these Popup Linkpink flowers and thisPopup Linklion head. This is the  Popup LinkConcord airport that I shot handheld through the fence in low light (excuse the quality). This is a view of Charlotte from  Popup LinkMarshall park and another Popup Linkview . A few Popup Linkpark residents.A shot taken at Popup Linkdusk. I figured I would take the assignment opportunity to show y'all around at least a little as I have really enjoyed seeing all of your towns. These were taken a few years ago and don't have some of the newer hi-rises in them. Just included that in case anyone wants to be picky(lol).

Sunset past.

I'm digging through my negs now that I can scan them. Just another I thought I would post. I've not been shooting as I'm getting over a pinched nerve in my shoulder, so bear with me as I re-discover past shots. These were taken in Maine. Popup Link1 Popup Link2  Popup Link3
