Help Wanted

By tgjohnmaz written 5/2/07 5:38 PM, published 5/2/07 5:38 PM

First of all, I apologize for the focus being a little 'soft', but this was 300mm and handheld, through a storm window.

This guy showed up at my feeder tonite, for the first time, and I could use some help with the identification. Is it a young bluejay, or is it a bluebird? Take a look and let me know, please. Thanx!

Meet Spike

By tgjohnmaz written 4/27/07 1:25 PM, published 4/30/07 5:15 PM

I picked up a new camera (Norcent DC-1020), just a little point & shoot, for when I don't feel like lugging the Nikon around. While playing with the close-up mode, I took a picture I think might work for the challenge.

First, lets see the snapshot, and after a little cropping, some saturation and hue adjustment, the world is ready to meet  Spike.

As always, all comments & criticisms are welcomed, not neccessarily listened to, but feel free to speak your mind.

Tree Top Fliers

By tgjohnmaz written 3/4/07 6:01 PM, published 3/4/07 6:01 PM

It's been awhile since I've posted anything, but the second one fits the shadow challenge. I caught these guys as they passed overhead, on my driveway.

Close Up / Adopt-a-Family

By tgjohnmaz written 12/20/06 3:21 PM, published 12/20/06 7:59 PM

First off, Hello Everyone! It's been awhile since my last post...can you say "slump"?

I work in a smalltown hospital(86 beds) and every year we have a Craft Faire to kick off the Holiday season. This event is also the kick-off for our "Adopt-a-Family" Christmas drive, with the JayCees. We managed to break two records this year. The first, for number of vendors (42, up from 23 last year) and for number of families adopted (217, up from 158). The families wishes are printed on paper angels, and we hang them on trees outside the vendors area. As an angel gets picked, the donor gets the pertinent info on sizes, colors, etc. and agrees to have everything wrapped & ready on time. Here are a few shots that fit this weeks challenge:

Not that it matters, but #3 won this weeks "Picture of the Week" on the hospital-wide screensaver. It gets me a free lunch, and bragging rights for a week. All in all, not a bad deal!

Flight of the Heron

By tgjohnmaz written 8/21/06 9:04 AM, published 8/21/06 9:04 AM
I've been noticing a Popup Linkheron on the pond every morning on my way to work. Since I don't have to be at work until 11 p.m. (yuck!), I decided to take a walk down the driveway and see if I could get a couple of Popup Linkdecent Popup Linkshots of Popup Linkhim. I'll let y'all decide how Popup Linkwell I Popup Linkdid. I like the butterfly wing-man in the last shot.
His flight is Popup Linkdone, now it's time to  Popup Linksurvey his domain.

As always, all gripes, groans, complaints, and moans are welcomed!

After Dinner Hummer

By tgjohnmaz written 8/18/06 8:08 PM, published 8/18/06 8:08 PM
After dinner tonight, I decided to take my coffee on the front stoop. The hummingbird feeder was about 4 feet away, so I was pleasantly surprised when they showed up. They were even nice enough to come back when I got up to go grab the camera

Hope you enjoy my feeble, freehand, first attempt at shooting hummers with a flash.

Luray Caverns, Va.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I've been in a "slump", photographically, and busy with family & work.

These sort of fit the challenge, because all of this occurred over thousands of years, and were just discovered a couple hundred years ago.

I took over 150 shots on a 1 hour tour, but figured I wouldn't bore you with all of them. BTW, #4 is my new wallpaper for awhile.

Any people, or parts of, are left in
intentionally, to give a sense of perspective. As always, all comments &
criticisms are welcomed & appreciated.

Visit with Ms. Iris

I stopped to see an old friend after work the other day. There was a flower bed next to the driveway, and I couldn't resist. Hope you like...

Flutterby

I saw my first Popup Linkbutterfly of the season that didn't  Popup Linklook like a Popup Linkcommon moth today. I like the Popup Linkcolor contrasts in this one. And, Popup Link1 more for good measure. Hope you like, and, as always, all gripes, groans, **tches, and moans are welcomed!

Saturday at Work

By tgjohnmaz written 4/2/06 5:53 AM, published 4/2/06 5:53 AM
Weekends are a little more casual at the hospital I work at. I had time to play with the camera for a change. These
Popup Linktrees are outside of our office. I don't know if they're Cherry trees, or Bradford pears, but the Popup Linkbees like them. Being in Maintenance, I get to go where the rest of the folks don't, so I grabbed this Popup Linksunset shot from the roof. This last shot is from one of the many  Popup Linkmarker lights on the roof, to keep the planes away. Hope you like...as always, all gripes, groans, bit**es, and moans are welcomed!

Last Weekend

By tgjohnmaz written 3/15/06 2:49 PM, published 3/15/06 2:49 PM
This first shot doesn't count towards the theme, as it was taken last spring, but, IMHO, it's worth being Popup Linkrevisited.

These next 3 were taken over the weekend,  Popup Linkaround Popup Linkthe  Popup Linkyard. Hope you like!

Theme & Yard shots

I'm already impressed by everyones entries so far, so i thought I'd give it a try. Took a Popup Linkmediocre shot, and played with it a little, in the hopes of being the first to try Popup Linkthis for the theme.

I took Popup Linkthis one from about 40 yards away, on my driveway. Nikon D70, 300mm, handheld.

By Accident

By tgjohnmaz written 2/27/06 3:50 AM, published 2/27/06 3:50 AM

I know it's been awhile since I've posted, but it doesn't mean I haven't been around. Lots of great pic's over the last several weeks!

I was "critter-sitting" at my sister-in-laws this weekend, and caught
Popup Linkthis through the patio door, totally by accident. Enjoy!
