i had another photographer sit as my model for my recent light tests. these are all two-light set-ups.
sorry i've been gone so long! i've been in my studio shooting different light tests when i'm not doing my day job :P i thought i'd share this bizarre light set-up. this is inspired by avedon, but with 2 lights (he usually uses 2 or 3 times that). it's still a pretty cool effect though!
in this weeks light class, we were assigned to do various light ratios on the subject. each light ratio gives a dramatically different effect on how flat or dynamic your subject is. this last ratio i shot, 5:1, is the most contrasty. i liked that about it. sadly, we were required to frame all shots horizontally, with the subject centered (blah). but, i thought i gave it some interest with this weird light trick of my own. can you guess how i got this coloring sans photoshop? (hint: the background is white, and his shirt is grey) ;)
I've been taking a night class in studio lighting. This is the first week, and our assignment was this tedius set of tests. One light "experiment" however, was quite fun...and very easy (easier than anything else we had to do). It was "painting with light." There's absolutely 0 photoshop in this; it was all created with a teeny keychain flashlight. I liked how it turned out...of all things :)
hey all! it's been a little while as i've been sick an entire week! i found out my medications were "tainted". i got a "bad batch" in a refill, and they made me horribly ill (i'm dependent on this medication); so now it's getting sent off to the company it originated for findings to go to the FDA. fun times :Pfeeling a wee better this morning i noticed some of our orchids were in full bloom. i decided to capture them!
I'm finally getting better! The sick time got me through a lot of editing. This is the last post with a pic of Dan from our shoot. Sorry the stories ended up cut up. I didn't realize my time would get broken up with these photos.
It's been a slow weekend. I haven't been able to get onto this site in two days!! Has it been down?I just have an image from my last shoot. I've been sick all weekend, so I've been going through and editing some of the other shots. I don't like this one as much as the last shot, but I like that this one shows how theatrical Dan is.
I did like the comment from the last image about holding the light source in his hand closer to his face. Wish I had thought of that while doing the shoot! Thanks for the input!
I know this blog is more meant for every day shots in your life, but working in my studio is part of my daily life ;) I did a shoot with Dan tonight. He hired me to do some specific shots for him. He hasn't seen any finals yet, but this was a shot from this evening.
Today I was running about downtown, actually buying photo equipment for an upcoming shoot. I needed to find a bathroom at some point, and with my friend in tow, darted into the Palace hotel. Neither of us had been inside before, and we immediately got lost. It was beautiful. When I was in college I used to stare into the foyer at the lovely flowers as I walked by the hotel. This time I decided to capture them from inside. I grabbed my friends tiny little cyber-shot camera and captured this. It's a bit dark because of the camera and time of day ;)
Hi, I'm new. I just started shooting again after 5 years of off time. These are some snapshots of a friends girlfriend taken in Golden Gate park a few weeks back.
