My Best Shot
My Best Shot by Kristian Bertel

This week the photographer Kristian Bertel shares the beautiful picture of women at work.
And here is why this is Kristian's favourite shot:
"This shot was taken at Amber Fort, Jaipur, Rajasthan and shows an Indian woman carrying stone. I'm a photographer who covers issues within the range of travel photography and documentary photography. The beautiful fort is a mesmerizing blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Amber Fort is all-built in white marble and red sandstone and I tried to capture the sunlight in between the pillars of the Amber Fort in the background of the photo. Besides that, I found the colourful clothing of the three women interesting, because this gives the photo a contrast to the background. The women in the background are situated in the shadow area, while the walking woman walks in the sunlight. I think this gives the photo an interesting appearance. While the sun was shining strongly I had to make sure not to burn out the white areas of the sourroundings. I used a small aperture to get the woman in the front stand out in the photo and I shot slightly underexposed to catch the details in the sari."

Best of 2011...
Hello Friends,
So difficult to choose a best, as when you look at your photos, they envoke memories. Each photograph reminds us of the event when we snapped that image. I chose a couple of my favorites. My personal challenge for 2012 is to take many more photos, and hopefully to post a few more.

The hidden secrets of the sky
Hi again,
One morning me and my sister were driving to school and we had just come down the hill beyond our house near the sand pit. I took a quick look in my mirror and saw a bright splash of red like a scarlet poppy.
In all my excitement I carefully pulled over in the turn around part of the sand pit and jumped out to snap several photos.
This is sky that was scarlet and began multicolored with a beam of light shining down. It's in the scarlet sky
See ya later

2010 Eclipse

Best of 2010
From the few I have posted for 2010 here is my entry--an old barn that has caught my eye the few times when traveling Wears Valley Rd on way to Cades Cove. There is really not much of a place to pull off the road in order to 'shoot', luckly not too much traffic on this particular afternoon.
Last night the 'weather news' predicted we could possibly receive 4-6 inches of snow--it must have just started snowing here about an hr ago and so far not much snow is on ground--sure hope it stays that way. Stay warm and have a great day!
Just went outside (6:18 am EST) to get the paper and it is not snowing.
My best shot.
I have to say that one of my honeymoon shots is my absolute best of 2010. I have a long way to go but it's great knowing that it can happen. paradise found
My personal best for 2010

I did not have a lot of out standing photos this year but this I love for the colors and the DOF.
I gave a print of it to my Dad for Christmas and he loves it.
Let me know what you think. : )
And I like to say thank you to Cory for fixing the signing on problem so I can finely post this. : )
Best of 2010

I feel like I was in a photographic slump for the entirty of 2010. Maybe it was just the majority because I actually found a relatively hard time picking a best. But I believe that the shot I've picked truly is my best shot. And the part I love most: it's film :-)
Without further ado, I bring you from the small island of San Jaun, Washington, the Lime Kiln Lighthouse.
Thanks for looking and commenting everyone. I haven't been around as much, but I can always count on you guys to let me know if I got the shot right or totally and miserably wrong ;-)
Details about this shot: In over 5 years of developing my own b&w film I've NEVER ruined a roll by light exposure... until now. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I f***ed up. While going to rinse my film instead of popping the top of my tank that still keeps it light tight, I unscrewed the whole freaking lid. As soon as I lifted it just a bit I realized what I did and slammed it back closed. Instead of just throwing the film out thinking all was lost, I developed it anyway. Only 4 shots were even scannable out of 36. Out of those 4, I got something magical. This is straight from the scanner. The only post editing done to this shot is a simple curves layer for added contrast.
It was a very good year...

Lets see - October I started my first photography course, November I bought my first DSLR, and December I went to India. I couldn't limit my favourites to just three this year - I've got 15 of my most special on my blog:

Please come over, say hello, and give me some constructive criticism - I'm really good at taking it like a big girl!

Moon Shot

I went out and took this shot of our moon this evening 21:45hrs BST. I waited for a gap in the clouds and I think this shot turned out not too badly!
Yes! I know this is my third post today! I couldn't resist the Halloweenish urge..
It could be much better of course and yes, it was a little rushed.. and it was taken on my snappy camera and it was doctored in Bridge...
Best Shot

I find this a very lovely portrait of a beautiful little girl. Probably my best shot of 2010 so far... What say you?
Comments, critiques, and nonsensicals are encouraged and appreciated.
My Best Shot/s.

Angel of The North This photograph was taken in August last year when on holiday in County Durham. We have a large tent as well as a caravan and spend lot's of our free time camping, that's a different story! I had always wanted to see this iconic landmark ever since it was erected. I recently checked out my Flickr account as I don't use it that often and was pleasantly surprised to find an email from a web based mapping company that this photo of mine had been used under creative commons licensing in one of their tour guides. It's nice to see the copyright logo next to my name and image on someone else's site. Unfortunately I received no fee, but I'm not complaining. Here's the link of the tour guide below:-

The guide doesn't always jump to my image in the top right corner, you have to scroll the thumbnails!
Coloured Pencils I have these pencils displayed on my Picasa site and this photograph has received the highest number of viewing hits. I shot them as part of a series of close ups in a makeshift shoe box studio just using natural reflected light shining in from our bay window. They were resting on a small lightbox. Photoshop played a part in the end result.
Red Sunset This is another holiday shot! I seem to have lot's of holiday shots! We were staying at a caravan site in the village of Crantock near to Newquay, Cornwall 2005. This was an unplanned spur of the moment shot taken on my compact, I was helping to prepare our kids for bed and noticed lots of folk outside with their cameras, needless to say I reached for mine. This shot is literally taken from the doorstep of our caravan, hence the poor composition with the lamppost attracting the eye. The sky was a blazing red and I have never seen anything like it!

Just would like some feedback
I started a wedding photography company awhile back and since then I have shot so many weddings. The problem is that I really have not networked with other wedding photographers and because of that, I haven't received any feedback on my work. Let me know what you think!
