I took this shot of the moon..then used Photo Explosion software to enhance hue and saturation.  These strange dark blue spots showed up. Above moon and around in darker blue area.  Anybody have any idea what they might be?

Thanks for feedback and sorry about the "blank" posting..I hit the wrong key on my computer..hope there is someway of combining so I don't have double postsStrange Spots

Would say these are dust spots on your sensor...I have that problem, had taken my camera twice to a local shop and they tried to correct, but did not work, guess that probably means it will need to be sent off for repair at some time.

They only showed up on this one shot..taken with a 70-300mm Canon lens..would that still indicate dust on the sensor?

Only on the one shot? If so not sensor dust. Dust spots will show on all shots, same locations any lens. If it was only on the one shot, blame it on ufo's and let it go at that.

the spots I am talking about with mine, do not see on every picture, but they are there on some and when I took my camera to the shop the guy told me it was dust, thought it was gone but the other day spots were in a couple of pictures

Best way to test it take a few shots with a couple different lenses against a clear sky or blank white wall. Sky is best. See if you get the same spots in the same places in all frames.

It look like dust to me on the sensor. It sometimes isn't real obvious in some shots unless you have the lens stopped down and shooting an even toned background. I'd recommend taking it somewhere that will be responsible for it. Also, from what I understand, If Canon can detect you've cleaned the sensor, actually the filter over the sensor, they will void your warranty. I had a similar spot before but blew it out with a squeeze bulb, I appropriated from somewhere. A very similar bulb is the ones they suck snot out of baby's noses. Obviously, you'd want to get one new. Don't use compressed air or the air can air for cleaning, I understand the first is too much and the second leaves residue. That being said there are a number of companies that make sensor cleaning tools of various sort. PecPad and Visible Dust's Sensor Brush come to mind. Keeping my above warnings in mind, if you do try such things let us know how it comes out.

Thanks folks for all the feedback..I called Canon Repair Center in Irvine, CA. They said it sounded like dust to them as well. They talked me through the procedure for blowing it out with a squeeze bulb and told me to hold the camera upside down so that any dust would fall out rather than back on the sensor.....worked..."dust on the sensor..just blew it away!!!! Beats having to ship the camera off and be without it for a coupe of weeks. They did offer the same advice about using canned air and such. They also said that if I did have to send it in Canon would do first cleaning complementary as long as there were no signs of misuse or abuse...very helpful folks at that Repair Center...Thanks again Photographica Community!!!
