The New Photographica Server

Comming Soon to a website near you. The new, almost dedicated Photographica web server.

Software: Redhat Linux 8.0, Apache+mod_perl+mod_ssl, proftpd (soon to be at port 21!).

What does this mean? A quicker page load, and way more room to grow.

    You do quite good work
Purtty pictures, and good news. Glad to see yet another improvement to the site.

Sir, you are too good for us simple posters. Huzzah for the web-master!

Can I get one of these?
Aren't 1U rackmounts really hard to find these days? Do you build/configure webservers for a living?

  • coryking
    Yes - you can
This is the case. My buddy found some suplier of pricewatch who sold these. I'll get the name - he was very impressed with their service, they didn't even tell us we were getting a "name brand" case.

I dont think 1U's will ever go out of style. Datacenters & colo centers sell real estate, as such, the price will generally go up. It's in everybodys best interest to optimize their little sliver of the datacenter (in our case, a 1/4 rack or about 13U's). Because of this push to get smaller and smaller, you'll see much more demand for 1U's. That or more and more of these blade servers

As somebody whos put together many computers, I'll say this 1U was probably the hardest case I've ever worked on. It's *hard*!! You gotta think about every little detail, like tucking the IDE cables under the metal, worrying about the clearance of the fans, power connectors, etc. Not only that, but they are just put together weird. Things fit in ways that you dont normally see on bigger cases. It took us both about 2 hours each to assemble the first case.

It was fun stuff though :-)

    And yes - kind of
Kind of. We run a small ISP of sorts that is soon to move off this T1 and into a colo center in the Westin building. This place essentailly god - *everything* in the pacific northwest from oregon to alaska terminates in that building somewhere. This message right now probably is passing many, many times over the cross connect one floor about our future colo facility.

Just curious as to how many gigs of photos are on Photographica now? The site is much faster. Nice work.
