Popup LinkOops. Somebody forgot to check that anchor in Avila. Here's what the boat looks like now.

This is also a little note to say I probably won't be dropping in as much, and I'm sorry about that. I'll be posting photos more often here, and adding to the blog here. Forgive me Cory...I love Photographica, but Flickr saves me a lot of time, what with not having to type any codes and stuff. :(

They do not, however, offer photo printing yet...so you still rule for that!

Sorry to read about all the photo-lifting trouble. Lame! Digimarc used to offer a free watermark for a while (which I used), I dunno if they're still doing that.

  • P.S. Flickr has headed off photo-stealing at the pass by using Flash. You can choose whether or not you want your photos to be downloadable or not, and if you choose not, it uses Flash to make them un-right-clickable and unsavable. Kind of interesting, I thought.

  • You can still hit the print screen and dump it into any editor, crop it and You've got it.

Don't kid yourself.... if a user can see it and they want it, they can get it.

  • Nope, that doesn't work--go try it if you don't believe me.

Yes, I know Cory is very busy and I'm amazed he's doing as much as he is. He's a great guy :)

  • Code Shmode...Not having to type code might save me 5 minutes a month.....big whoopy-doo! :] I guess that flickr site is ok, but I prefer Photographica to any other I've seen for good photography and interesting people. :]

  • great shots as always...I'll miss you here. You just don't get the community feeling that you do here, and the almost instant feedback. I post all my pix at smugmug, and represent them here--I hope you'll consider still putting the stuff you're really proud of here for all of us to see, with a link to the rest.

  • Bunnigrrrl,

It does work, I did it but I'm not going to go into detail how.

The whole point is if you put it on the web and somebody wants it bad enough they can get it. It isn't legal but they will do it anyway.

I could go into how I think this whole theft thing should have been handled but this is not my site and I'm not going to tell the man how to run his site.

  • Ok, Mike, yes, it is technically possible. I'm able to get Flash files with a special program, but most people don't have this. And I maintain attempting to do a simple screenshot of Flash displays doesn't work--if it were that simple, everybody would be doing it. As far as I know you need a program that will do that. Flickr at least gives you the OPTION of TRYING to protect your stuff. But I agree, nothing will stop people that are determined to get your stuff. The RIAA is still having a hard time with this fact.

As for time...when I have several photos to post or a gallery, in the past it has taken me up to a good HOUR to resize the photos, frame them, upload them, fight with the FTP upload, write the story, do the codes, test it with previews, and then finally do the post. Not that I don't think Photographica is worth it, but you can see why I can't as often as I'd like.
