The weeds shot drew me in most. The amber backlight is soothing.

    All great shots.

I like them a lot! Very nice. The only advice I could give you about the portrait shot is to try it with your camera sideways--taller than it is wide. Cuts out the extra background and lets the eye focus on the subject. If I'm taking portraits, I try to do some both ways to look at them later on my laptop. Nice light on her, by the way!

    weed is outstanding!

Since you asked . . . The Weed shot was outstanding. About the portrait: You have a great subject with a wonderful smile. There is a lot to work with there. Here are a few tips to taking a better portrait: If you want the subject looking straight at you, use portrait orientation. (Taller than wide as Austinspace pointed out) and center them in the frame. Use a fill flash or a reflector to soften the harsh shadow on the left side of the face. For more dramatic effect have them look slightly to one side with eyes on the camera. In this case to the subject's right since the shadow is on that side. Then put the subject slightly to the right of center. Pay particular attention to the background. The porch rail (?) across her neck is distracting. Use a contrasting backdrop. In this case I would suggest a lighter patch such as a white wall or open sky. The mid tones of the yard blend with the mid tones of her hair. A lighter background would separate her from the background and make the portrait more interesting. Hope this helps. Keep shootin!

Thanks for the tips and comments . I will surely keep them in mind for my further attempts. The potrait was kinda all of a sudden but I will be better prepared next time and be sure to show the results. Thanks again to everyone who puts in time to make this site work. PHOTOGRAPHICA ROCKS!!!

Although all are very nice (I agree with Paulamouse on the colors of the moth), but the kitten hiding in the grass is awesome!

  • KayN
