BiPolar is NOT a Sexual Confused Bear

So you think you want to learn about me?

Recently, I've been diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder (sometimes called Manic/Depressive Disorder).  It explains a lot about my early adulthood.  Bipolar has several different types.  Mine is called "rapid-cycling" meaning I can change moods very quickly (sometimes in the course of the day).  These mood swings are very drastic and confusing.

At first I was very embarrassed, but I've grown to appreciate this as a liveable health problem (as one would view diabetes or hypertension).

There are two POLES a persons mood can swing violently into.  One is Depression.  This is marked by worry, oversleeping, and sometimes severe depression.  I become very Popup Linkpensive, Popup Linkembarrass easily, Popup Linkshy, Popup Linkfearful and Popup Linksad.

The other pole is Mania.  This is marked by hyperactivity, excessive behaviors (worry, spending, sex) with little regard of the consequences.  I become Popup Linkcreative, Popup Linkovertly sexual, and Popup Linkeasily angered and irritable.

Rarely do I find myself at peace.  I generally feel rather Popup Linkdiscombobulated and fractured.  Although mental illness is no joking matter, I find humor is the best medicine (besides the Lithium - ha ha) and I believe others should feel free to ask questions and join in the fun with me.  I keep a sense of humor, stay Popup Linkhopeful and try to stay Popup Linkpositive about the things to come.

  • Jo, I was just wondering if you could come over my house when in the Mania Mood?

Discombobulated and fractured brought a chuckle out of me with you. If you keep your sence of humor all your positives will fall in place. Can't wait to call my sister and tell her discombobulate is a real word, I've used it for awhile and she wasn't sure if it was just me making up a word if it really was...it is it is!

  • All the faces tell us much, BUT, the eyes also say much. Looking past the facial expressions, I see a pair of really lovely eyes. Good Post!

  • this is an amazing and revealing post, and I thank you for sharing it. I love the photos, too--even without the words, they'd be standouts. I'm especially thinking of the anger shot and especially the hopeful shot--one of the nicest portraits on here in a long time.

jo, me being ADHD and you being bi polar, we are medically kinda cousins. i think we share the creative gene. anywho, very candid and humorous look into who you are... and for the record, i think those that are honest about their problems tend to be healthier than those that think they dont have any. once again.. great post
