Road Trip

One of the "problems" I found on our road trip earlier this year was light.  Since we were, in fact, trying to get somewhere it was rare that I had good light for any of my pictures.  The only two places I was able to get good light was Death Valley & Redwood National Park, both of which we spend the night at.

Getting the lighting right at the ocean was hard.  I had to position Shannon in such a fasion that the light was comming at her perpendicular to the ocean AND get the ocean in the background!  There was only a few bluffs where I could do that.

Very nice Cory. Death Valley has a "Titanic" feel to it. "I can fly!"

I think the light in the last one was used very well and you did pretty good on the rest with what you had. DV was nice and the grand canjon still had nice colors and a sence of awe to it...good post and I'm sure a great trip. thanks

  • All nice but the last one had great composition and the light was great. Also liked the feel of vertigo in the first GC shot.

  • very nice work, Boss...definitely a hard thing to do on the road, when you're quickly moving from place to place. I love the DV pic--it's awesome.

  • I have the same problem. If I want to capture early morning light I have to get up and travel to the spot well before sun up. (And I HATE getting up early) Conversely, if I want to capture the dramatic evening light I have to stay late and travel back (usually over dark country roads) late at night. That being said, the results are often worth the sacrifice. Still, its' hard to do when your traveling with others. I often travel alone. Which in itself is a mixed blessing. Good shooting!

These are all very nice, but the one that really does it is the last one. I like the combination of the tall grass, shannon and the ocean. It makes for a nice combination. I like it too that you include people in your landscapes. . . I'm always waiting for a clear shot, but I see that it adds a really nice perspective.

I liked the one of Shannon full length, very romantic quality to it.

  • I liked the Death Valley shot. I suppose a reflector or some sort of fill light would have given us more Shannon but as is it effected me.

Going with the flow here, the last one was the shot to linger over and enjoy. Very lovely lady, and composed beautifully.

  • Its hard to pick a favorite when they're all such great shots, but if forced to make a choice, I'd pick the first of the two Redwood National Park photos. The photo seems to invite the viewer in to share in one of life's rare quiet moments.
