DOUG/TRIBUTE THEME

Doug's work is, to me, like the perfect date...

Sexy & Provacative

Spontaneous & Dangerous

Delicious & Spicy

Exotic yet Familiar

He is a natural at composition and austere storytelling. His skill in manipulation is subtle and controlled. Which lets you see his subject rather than what has been done to the photo. Mostly, I admire his command of human subjects, my favorite challenge, and to me the most complex of all things to shoot. To me his shots of women are highly charged without being overt. My submissions for this tribute are my latest attempt at the human subject and are influenced by artists like DOUG.

Yowza! Great pics....if your inspiration is Doug, then I need to take lessons from BOTH of you. I liked legs and boot the best.

  • debora
the last in your series titled "legs" is hot! "grasp" is equally profound. besides being incredible photos, they communicate emotion. so hard to do...but you owned it! what an accomplishment ... when you can get your viewer to feel!

On the very top of the toolbar on this page you can do a photographica search using the word 'doug'. Or you could click on his name in his most recent post 5th from the bottom of this page if you display 50 at a time or on the second page if you display 30. The post is titled "It's been 83 days since my last post". Hope that wasn't confusing.

Absolutely stunning work. Grasp, Knee and Legs are by far my favorites. (If it's true that "All men are dogs" then, "Woof!") Seriously, well done.

    - Pigs CAN fly!

Yes the Queen of sexy photos!

dirkbag: content aside, your way off base with what you think we'll delete and what we'll let ride. There is nothing, I repeat nothing wrong with voicing your opinion when it's done like this. Some things that don't fly: vulgar remarks with no explanation. Flyby insults from AH's. Profanity laden diatribes that don't ever make a point. Other than that, feel free to tell it how you see it...

    - I'm Special!

  • throughtheeyesoflauramars
If I have any say... Dear Editors, I do not wish for Dirkbags comment to be removed. DB your opinion is appreciated.

I appreciate the spirit of Doug's more...showy...posts even if I don't cotton to the content. I see young people being alive with that who-cares mentality and feeling of immortality. I work with students that act the same way. It's a thrilling time of life. I feel the same way about Doug himself--he's finding his way, and we're along for the ride. I hope a post like Rachel's inspires and challenges him to try something different next time. These are great, great photos, Rachel--where what's not seen is just as important as what is. I think you've just kicked it up a notch...again.

A part of me agrees with Dirkbag, and a part of me loves living vicariously through Dougs photos (ahh to be a drunk, messed up girl again. I miss yesturday). I have to say, there are some photos that Doug has shot that are outstanding and have nothing to do with sluttiness. One in particular is Swing. To Doug defense he has some great photos, but he can definitely learn a thing or two from Rachel when it comes to taking pictures of women.

I like all the shots. "Legs" is my favorite. I like it because of the b/w.

Hey, Thanks TT for reminding me how much I like Dougs work. He doesn't post real often lately and I had forgotten what it was I liked about him. Cool post and of course.... Your Pics

I think Blizzard said exactaly what I was thinking.

Dirk, you're a prude, but no one here is going to delete a comment like that when some thought and reason is put into it. Here's where I find the art in doug's photos. I find a lot of doug's candids very sexy. I know you can appreciate that. But what I truly appreciate is the way he gets people to work for him. I can't say there is a single photographer here that can capture people so naturally. Not only does he capture people living their lives (regardless of whether we want to live ours that way or even approve of it), but he manages to get people to do it like there was no camera there. Even his "posed" shots feel natural. The real beauty, for me, in Doug's photos is his ability to capture people living.

    - Contumelious

  • lilbit
I see your point too kw, your right he does capture that. Ok can I even think for myself today. I'll just agree with you all....lol

  • jeffrey
i cant remember what doug posted... we are free to choose what we shoot, how we shoot it and post it. i'll let editors decide what stays.. and my own preferences decide what i look at. TT, you did well in the spirit of my theme. you conveyed deep appreciation for someone who challenged and inspired you. and for taking the time to do this, i am deeply thankful. many make there mark in life, and fewer still that leaves there words and deeds in our recorded history. but how great is he (or she) that leaves there mark upon the heart and soul of another. and in the immortal words of Forrest Gump... "Thats all I have to say about that."

    - believe...

  • throughtheeyesoflauramars
I am pleased that discussion has occured, thanks DB. I enjoy work that is out of the norm. That makes me uncomfortable. Not to detract from sunsets and flowers, but capturing life not standing still, is a challenge that I believe doug does well. kwsNI was spot on in his comment...dougs subjects allow him in to capture them, and in turn he lets me be a voyeur. Doug's sexually fueled content is a small fraction of what he has shot, although it is what people remember. If you look at his other work you will see something markedly different than JD swilling babes. Lastly, given dougs age, (my guess being late twenty something) his work looks polished and has a definite feel. I would love to see what he does when he is 40 something. *sidenote to DB* I understand your aversion to said salacious and substance fueled content. You photographically have mastered removing these elements from your bar/concert photos which by nature are mired in the afformentioned. Your work is in the same vein as dougs in many ways. There is a fine line that separates you...raw vs. filtered. Just as we hash out ps vs. unaltered etc...the art is there to prompt discussion and thought. I for one am so glad you took the time to put your opinion forward. Rachel
