  • I don't know ANYTHING about photography...but I just don't believe that these gems are being shot to their BEST advantage. There is that glare in the Pink Topaz shots on the very center of the stone...it takes away from all the beautiful side facets....how do you keep from getting the glare??? beats me.....but I am sure someone can give you some sound advice...maybe back lighting?? just my opinion...

  • I've got to hand it to you, macro is a tough place to start! I've done some work here in school for this kind of thing.. I found a website that I'm sure you'll find very useful. Most of this kind of stuff you can make on your own. Good luck, and I can't wait to see your next set of gems! http://www.tabletopstudio.com/documents/jewelry_photography.htm

  • You would think macros would be easy...they are not...still yet, these pics are a wonderful starting off place. You only get better with practice and time...so keep on it! (wonderful subject matter...but Beh is right...reflection/glares are hard to work around.)

I might suggest that you use a mirror under the gem, or a clear palstic or glass ..and the use a light source from under the clear base so as to show the light from the bottom of the gem..if thats to hard ..try the mirror..

Macros are very hard to do without blurring...keep at it.....practice, practice, practice....

  • One thing I can say from experience...the hardest thing to do with a macro shot is to back away just a bit. Sometimes you're just a little too close and your lens can't focus that well. Beautiful pieces, though! And hey--if your town is adorned with yellow ribbons, why not shoot some of those?

  • Maco is also hard for me to capture--but as Kay says--practice, practice
