CORONADO ISLAND, CALIFORNIA

By colbb written 11/2/05 4:40 PM, published 11/2/05 4:40 PM
We try to visit San Diego and Coronado Island at least once a year, and our recent trip in late October was perfect for weather and light traffic, being off season for tourists.

Our favorite spot is hotel on the island with views of the bay and city.  That's where I did almost 100% of my shots since the rest of our time was spent on the Naval Air Station golf course, excepting the summit conference with Surferguy and visiting The Marine Corps Base.

During my tours of duty at the Naval  Amphibious Base years ago the only direct route from the mainland to the island was the Coronado Ferry.  Although a pleasant ride, the wait lines could be maddening at times, especially if you faced diciplinary action for reporting late.

The Coronado Bridge has changed all that, and will be seen in several of my photos.  The ferry has been retired.

If you haven't visited the area you are missing a great treat.  Enjoy!

Very nice shots BB, very impressive for a country boy. If I lived there I'd be rubber necking day and night. From what you guys and gals are saying about real estate costs there, I wonder what my house in Pa would be worth on that turf.....about $250,000 here, should be worth more if I haul it there.

nice shots, colbb--what a view you had! I've seen the Bridge but never been on it--reminds me of the Astoria Bridge in Oregon. And the last pic, with the Convention Center...I missed it this year.

OK, SG, you might as well start a party plan. But with the Mexican Village having closed down, where are we gonna' find a good Margarita? I can't believe that place went belly up, most nights you could hardly walk through the bar it was so solidly packed. What's this about shoes, "we don't need no stinkin'shoes!"

I agree, BB...who needs shoes? My hubby fusses at me all the time 'cuz I hate to wear shoes. I go outside barefooted all the time... I'm all for the photographica meet......just let me know when and where......
