My First Try at Thirds

By vintner67 written 12/1/05 12:53 PM, published 12/1/05 12:53 PM
Always wanted to take some shots At Union Staition in downtown Los Angeles. I got off work early yesterday and it was perfect opportunity.
This is my first foray at conciously shooting with the rule of thirds in mind.
It was harder than I thought it would be. Not sure how I did, would love any help and constructive criticism anyone can give.
Thanks Jo for the great technical theme.

You did very well on the rule of thirds on all of your pictures. ;o) I love the picture of the Union staion Clock at sunset, the best.

    Good Thirds Shots...Well Done!

wow! A plus man. Great Subject choice! Love the seating in sunlit hall, the city hall reflection, the drinking fountain. Entrance and no entrance should be scaled, framed and hung side by side.

  • debora
We should get badges or pins if we execute an assignment. Like the boy and girl scouts! You definitely got the badge on Rule of Thirds!

Good use of time while on the way home. Interesting shots and they do fit the theme nicely.

Nice captures. Like MWD sign and water fountain the best I think. Several nice images. And I love debora's idea--cool! (badges and framed photos both!)

    - blow.....hard

GReat idea debora, I didn't even think about framing those photos, I have the perfect spot for them. And thanks for the honorary badge. I will wear it proudly.

I think I enjoyed the reflection shot the best.

Well done! I thought water fountain was the best because of the depth of field. You might find a filter for barrel distortion. Some of the straight lines appear ached. good subject!

  • vintner67
Thanks schott, I noticed that with the clock and door shot, what kind of filter would that be? Thanks for the info

  • smalltown05
Geez, I looked at these again and stopped liking what I liked before. Now I like clock and main hall. It's a woman's right to be fickle.

Vintners got it going on.....great shots!

very nice pix of a very cool place! I know it was a public place and all and to approach someone like that would be alarming for her, but I was really intrigued by the woman sitting to the far left in the "Sunlit Main Hall" shot...bathed in the sun, in front of that door.

Like the water fountain and being able to see the Christmas tree inside the bldg--and all those men just hangin around--don't they anything better to do. According to the clocks you got most of these shots within 30 mins. 12-02-05 7:39pm est
