On my way to work the yesterday noticed that this Popup LinkBall apparently had been forgotten and abandoned by some children, but am sure they had a good time while keeping the ball company.
Stopped by my daughters last night and "attempted" to take some pictures, these are the only two decent enough to keep--what am I doing wrong.

  • It looks like you didn't use a flash, which is good for capturing ambient light. However, without flash you get so-so results in low light. The orange tint in "Angels" suggests the White Balance is wrong. Try setting the White Balance for Tungsten light. (Check your owner's manual) Also, use a tripod or monopod. (I use a monopod with a swivel head. It works wonderfully to steady the camera and its easier to set up and use than a tripod) You can also correct some of the lighting problems with Photoshop. However, getting right in the camera is so much more satisfying. Good luck. BTW: are you using the Canon Digital Rebel? If so, You can also set the camera to AV and set the apeture to 5.6. This will kill the depth of field but give you a wide open apeture to let in more light.

I have the same problem with pics of my tree. I'm gonna try using more ambient light. You can try a flash but it might be too bright to show the lights on the tree. A tripod is a good suggestion, I use the self timer with mine. Merry Christmas!
