I do not know where to post this, so I am putting it in the General section.

Many of you heard how I my hard drive is burnt toast and that I lost everything that was on it....thousands of photos, documents, teacher related things, student related items, and so on....

I want to say thank you to YOU, photographica.org friends, for offering advice and providing emotional support to me (I was very sad on Friday and Saturday).  I threw one heck of a pity party for myself -- chips and chocolate.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for your suggestions!  What a super community this is!!!!!

Below is a picture from my photographica.org album.  It makes me laugh.  (You've seen it previously.)

  • I have not been following the thread so someone may have said this already but have you looked into Data recovery? It is extremely expensive but , If I lost all my Photo's I would be hanging from a short rope in a tall room. I triple back up, On my Hard Drive, on my External HD and On DVD/CD.

  • I also use Scandisk Cruzer mini with 2 gig storage for files etc. You can buy one for pictures and another one just for files

  • Sorry to hear about your troubles, Yenner! I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Had to wipe my HD! Lost alot of stuff, but thankfully not everything. Most of what I lost photo wise were scans anyway. Just have to do them again. Definitely will back up sooner this time! Lol

  • I experienced this traumatic disaster some time back, therefore prompting me to invest in two external 120Gb hard drives. One was dedicated to nothing but storage of my tons of digital shots. While nothing guarantees that external hard drives will never suffer the same malaise as onboard drives, the lesser frequency of activity should in theory lengthen the life expectancy.

I'm glad you're feeling better....chocolate works wonders! I have some stuff backed up, but am unsure of how to back up stuff that I purchase as downloads (like my pro show gold); anybody got any suggestions on this?

  • Kay, Usually if you keep the Product Keys you can re-download the products from the manufacture and then use without problems. The other thing I do is to Download the original .exe File and I burn that to disc. Otherwise trying to Burn an installed file is tough since parts of it get installed all over your computer. In registry and elsewhere etc.
