These are the "ovens " that were used to burn the bodies of the prisoners here. Perhaps the only place that I have been that has really brought the reality of what happened to mind. I have read about it, seen movies about it, and listened to survivors talk about it, but this, to me, said "This IS what happened". It isn't what is taught in High School history class, at least where I went to High School, it is much more than that. I hope that we, as humans, remember what went on and never let it happen again.
Yes, it did feel a little odd that I was taking this shot. The looks I got from others there almost persuaded me to not do it. I am glad that I did, if for no other reason than to show my son, when he grows up, that it is real. The way I see it, I didn't have a choice but to take this, and the 4 other rolls that I shot that day.
I am glad you took them. The image to me expresses the cold calculating clinical manner in which men, woman and children were exterminated. Never again.
A picture of a thousand words, speaks to you from the victims who want us to never forget. It is chilling... and a way for you to pass their words on. Surreal....
Jenssis says "Never Again" but it has happened many time since and continues to happen. Unless countries and governments are willing to stand up and stop it whereever (and to whomever) genocide occurs, it will continue.
