It's been a while since I've posted. . . the end of the school year always buries me under a mound of paperwork. I finally had the chance to get loose today and took some photos of the Houston skyline from Memorial Drive. • Love the infrared.  Skyline 1 is a great shot, with the sculpture/fountain/whatever echoing the skyscrapers.  Nice work.

Surferguy -- I'm not sure why you're upset.  I like the look of infrared because it makes ordinary landscapes look unusual, so I sometimes shoot it instead of straight bw or color. It does alter sky/clouds because one becomes darker and the other lighter, giving more contrast. As far as the extension goes, putting the memoiral monument in the foreground gives the photo some depth it might not otherwise have.  It creates a contrast between near and far and reverses the usual perspective because the monument is really quite small compared to the buildings in the background. The only thing else I can say is that I appreciate your preference for color, but I don't share it.

  • These are very nice!  Your work inspired me to try it myself.  What I like about it is it puts a different perspective on a subject.  Infrared is simply use of a filter to alter the image, no different than the use of any other filter.

Variety is the spice of life.  That's why I like this site.  Everyone specializes in different styles.  But not everyone likes the same thing.  Some people are in to formal photography, some into nature and others are into experimental photography, etc.  But that's okay.  Photography is a personal thing.  What I say is if you like it, go for it.

    - In tune with the camera.

I like how the clouds look in 4. Never thought of shooting in infra red.

  • Nice shots of Houston. I like how you used the foreground to accent the background.

  • Suferguy:  Infrared is the part of the light spectrum that is belowred. Infrared is part of the spectrum your eye cannot see.  Much the same, Ultraviolet or UV light is above blue, another part of the spectrum your eye cannot see.  Infrared light is the same light that comes from your remote control; you can't see it but your TV can.

Turns out digital cameras can pick up infrared light, you just have to filter out the light we can see first so you don't overwhem the camera.

In these shots, you are "seeing" light your eye cannot detect; almost like an alien world.
The stuff on the ground isn't snow at all!  It's grass!  Grass reflects infrared light quite a bit so its very bright.

These are great shots, but I have to agree with surfer; I prefer color, also.
