I taped the film to a white sheet, lit up a couple 1500w photo floods, took the shots and then inverted the image in photoshop. Cropped a little and ...
OK, you answered my question. I wasn't sure if you inverted or if it was Color Slide Film made B & W. But then there would have been that "Chrome" word on the film.
Great Job!
i love story telling. but at first glance i was drawn into the neat package you delivered your pics in. however.. studying the pictures, they still tell a story, with no words. well done wilk.. well done
What's left to be said? Fantastic and very unique. These would be perfect as a multi piece mural with each frame appearing to be a continuation of the previous. Great idea wilk.
Wilk, these are some of the best Pix to ever be posted here. They really took a lot of Time, Effort, Set-up, Knowledge of Lighting etc.
I wish more effort would be put into photos like this. This is defintely, Photographica Hall of Fame Material
I think we all agree Moose.. but keep in mind that most of us don't know 2% of the power of PS and the only lighting we have is the sun and the built in flash on our cameras. With that said I think the quality of the posts here improve daily and in time a bunch of us novices will keep up with (well sorta) Wilk, John, Dirk, and the rest of the Pro(ish)s on the site... Let us not forget the reason this site exists...
Okay -- not as hard as it sounds, even for you 2% guys -- First start with good equipment like my Nikon, open in photoshop, convert to black and white, go to the Image menu, select Adjustments, and select invert. That's it. Invert turns positives into negatives and negatives into positives. Total time in photoshop -- 2 minutes max. There is no backlighting or anything like that. . . just a strong light because I was indoors. You could do this in the backyard with sunlight. Just make sure your background is white so it contrasts with the film negative. Good luck. . . and since I'm an English teacher and haven't managed to sell a photograph yet, I don't consider myself pro (ish or otherwise).
Yeah Wilk it didn't look like a ton of PS work. Just Great Photography.
SG, I'm not sure what this site is supposed to be and it is different, apparently, for a lot of people.
We have everything from Snapshots of the Kids to great stuff like Wilk's. So is this site for people interested in Photography or just a Photo sharing site? I don't know the answer so maybe people can chime in
the photo sharing, interaction, and inspiration ... drives our interest in Photography... its the image... and the way we see it... not to mention our shared love of the media... the site is for all... thank goodness for a bunch of really tallented people willing to hold our hands.. and teach us along the wayl..
This site is a community or a family of some sort and for better or worse I've gotten to "know" some people I'd never have met otherwise by seeing what they see and hearing what they think. What irked me about SG's comment was my dismissal from the community. Don't kick me to the curb for whatever reason. Also, this site represents an opportunity to put stuff out there to see what people think about it. I'm not trying to hone my skills so I can make a living at it; I'm trying to hone my skills because I like the idea of being good at things. It's also a place to gather ideas and learn. Every time we have a "contest" I find I'm forced to re-think how I look at things. I'm taking photos I never would have even tried a couple weeks, months, years ago because of those contests and because of the work I see others place here. Everytime I see a look I like, I wan't to try it and if it's not obvious, I'm going to ask "How'd you do that?" So, why are the rest of you here?
Let me give you an example of this last post. I just took my camera outside, with a negative strip, held it up to the sky and took the picture. In photoshop, I highlighted the negative and inverted it. Click Here Time from start to finish. . . since the last post. Expensive lighting -- God knows.
I'm with you there Wilk.
Maybe I should make this a separate post and then get the feelings of all involved since this is getting pushed down on the page. Or maybe people are just not interested and I'm just being anal. :)
Moose, make it a separate post, and I'll keep bumping it to the top. I'd be curious to get input. Wilk, I think Surfer meant no harm; I think he's awed by your work, as we all are.
I agree, SG didn't say anything wrong in my book; I went back and re-read the comments; didn't see any "dissing" going on, only praise for the great work you do.....
Okay, here's my last two cents worth: I like the idea of asking the question, "Why are you here? or What is your purpose here?" Next, consider where I'm coming from -- I teach juniors and seniors who constantly tell me they cannot write a 5 page paper or read a book or etc., because it takes too much time or it's hard, or it's boring or some such. I don't care why you cannot do something because I think that excuse making is useless. Tell me what you like; tell me what you don't like, but please don't tell me why you can't. Figure out how you can. Finally, I apologize if I mistook SG's comments, but my sense of what he said is that there are "us" and "those other guys" and that we shouldn't forget the purpose of the site which implies that it is for the "us." Let me suggest that we are all "us."
I Agree with Wilk in that one of the things that does bug me here is the lack of effort on some people parts. And I don't mean you SG, your photos are just fine. But people post photos that are totally out of focus(Not on Purpose) or the wrong size or just bad darn Pix. No not everybody will post pictures like Wilk cause they take pure talent and imagination that some people just don't have. I would just like to see people push themselves a bit and be better at this. But maybe that is not why some are here and I am off base.
P.S. SG you have to get over that people don't like you here. Everybody likes you just fine. You have not been the same since the AH called you a DH or whatever. You are a big part of the community here.
AMH, I think for some of us, posting what you call "bad pics" is the beginning of the learning experience. If you don't get critiqued, you don't grow. I know my shots have improved since coming here; we're not all good when we begin, but,in time, if we listen and look, we get better. That's what we're all about; helping each other. IMHO.
Kay, that would be fine if that is what happens. But what really happens is that people will post an obviously bad pic and people will still say "Nice" "Good Shot" etc. And they move on. A lot of people have gotten upset when their pix have been critiqued. So people don't because of that. And I guess in the end that's OK. That's probably why I am here. For fear of being harshly critiqued too. I should say that some constructive critism is coming out now, Look at the case of b15151.. But I think that was only becasue of his outright brashness.
I realize that this is mostly a "Begginers" Site and that is great. I was only hoping to prepare people for the real world. People will get enough smoke blown up their A** by their friends, Family and here and then they will go take a Photo Class and the teacher(A pro) will trash their pix and they leave the class in tears. I've seen it happen.
Anyway, enough.
Photographica is fine the way it is. I don't want anything to change. I Truly like how nice everybody is. So I will leave it alone and get off my soapbox.
Yep. This site has changed. When it began, it seems to me it attracted more criticisms in the comments, and fewer beginners. Will it continue to change? I hope so. We're going to have our 5,000th signup soon--this is no small feat.
There are different ways to criticize. Bluntly saying "this is crap" is just as bad as saying nothing (I'm not directing this towards anyone), and the site should cultivate the growth in constructive criticism we've seen lately.
