This was once a thriving mill town that had so much to offer its residents. Now it is simply vanishing and being lost in time. The ghosts of what were seem to haunt the abandoned homes.

These pics tell the story themselves; it's sad to see what was once thriving diminish down to nothing.  IMO, the B & W's give you more of the "ghostly" feeling than the color.  You captured it well, agony!

Nice B&Ws. #5 caught my eye. It appears to be an old school building. There's always something about old schools that I find appealing.

  • Great captures - they do tell a story.  I like the mood of the B&W a lot, but I really liked # 7 & #8 for the beauty among the ruins.

  • Really like the repetition of pattern in #9 particularly, but these are all cool. See, I don't mind going into cemeteries...but I'd have a hard time going into these houses, if you could...especially at night! I like the day you photographed these, too--nice and gloomy.

  • Like the B&W pics, would like to "peek" inside the bldgs--did you by chance have any "ghosts" accompany you on the tour.

  • Usually I like B&W better but #6 was really outstanding.  I love the tight shots of the details.  Nice work.

  • Thank you all for your comments.  As for the background on this place.  It was once the home of Manetta Mills owned by the Heath family.  Its located in Chester County, SC.  The homes were built for the mill workers to live in and the old school and church was also built by the Heath family for the mill workers.  My grandmother was the PostMaster of this small town for 50 yrs.  She graduated high school (8th grade) from that old school house. It housed all grades back then and was considered to be a very modern place.  The rest in the area were still wooden one room types.  There used to be kids running everywhere, a pool that we so enjoyed in the summer and though full of life it was the safest place in the world to grow up.  The Post Office actually still runs inside the old mill store for the few residents that live there despite the ghostly appearance of the place.  I have not the nerve to go to this place at night and see what creeps around the corners of these homes...LOL  Although I do intend to go back to capture some pics of the old mill real soon.

Sad is right, especially with your family story. I like the brick details.
