Might I suggest that you take your time, look, and actually SEE stuff around you, picture the surroundings in your mind, pick a focal point and then try your best to capture it.....I'm sure you'll get more pointers.....

I get too excited when I see something that i want to take a picture of which is mainly anything..but then my excitedness takes over my patience to capture the moment -hence some not so good shots.  I was also trying really hard to find an interesting post for the theme...still searching...thanks!

  • I think it is a good idea but just needs to be worked on a bit like if it had more shadows or more distinct ones. Like put your friend outside and shine a Flashlight at the side  of their head. I don't know I grapsing at straws here but  I like the fact that you didn't just go to the first door you saw and took a picture of it.

  • lechar, I empathize with you - I too have to slow myself down and study the picture before I snap it - to make sure I'm getting what I'm seeing in my mind's eye. Course there are times when that time is not available, but whenever you can spend time studying it and asking what you want to get out of it - I think you'll find your shots will improve over time. Just don't give up and keep trying. Look forward to seeing more of you images.

  • You know how in the movies if there's a director he's always holding his hands out, and looking through the square his fingers form? He's framing the shot to look like it would in his camera, and thus on the screen. It's a cliche there, and you don't have to actually put your fingers out there, but try to imagine what the scene before you will look like when your camera takes the picture. If it's not exciting enough, change your position or just don't take it. Something drew you to this window and that's cool--now you need frame it so that it draws other people to it, too.

I don't mind it so much.  I like the colour gradient in the frosted glass.  How would a crop look without any border?  Just the frosted glass and the ivy?
