BusyB's post below reminded me of the fun I had whilst Popup Linkspelunking in Popup LinkCosta Rica .

Aside from the Popup Linkclimbing, Popup Linkexploring, and Popup Linkinteresting rock Popup Linkcreations, it was very interesting to learn how the vampire bats go out at night, suck blood from the farmer's cows, then come back to the caves to sleep.  As they sleep (upside down), the blood drips from their mouths onto Popup Linkthe rocks below.

Our Popup Linktrusty guide kept the Popup Linksnakes at bay and saved us from the Popup Linkrock monsters.  Though there wasn't much he could do against the Popup Linkacid falls.

So, now everyone has lived vicariously through my spelunking.  Hope you enjoy!  My digicam at the time sure didn't... ;)

Kody, excellent set of photos.  I love caves but have not had the chance to do this kind of exploration.  It looks like you had a great time and managed to take beautiful photos in a difficult environment.

    Good post, Kody.

I like caves, too, but trying to crawl through a tight space would make my skin crawl.

  • Went to Carlsbad  to the caves there...Nothing like your trip. We went in a section that hadn't been open since the twenties.. They kept it open for only a week. It was some tight quarters! I did that once and glad I went but won't go back.. I'll leave all that to you young guys!Let me have those open spaces. I went to your other pics and the trip looked wonderful. What a great thing to do while youre still young! You go for it Kody!

I love the trip you just took me on, but I couldn't do it!  I have a fear of all the things you listed......
I have went in caverns before and can handle that, but I COULD NOT stay all night and do what you did!  Kudos to you.....BTW, wonderful pics!

  • Love the Cosat Rica picture. Hope to go someday. Also love Rock Monsters, that guy looks like he pretty funny. Totally something I would do. I have done cave stuff like that and it is scarey, but so much fun too, never thought I could fit through certain areas when you are in there. Nice pics.

John, I had my camera in a ziplock bag for most of this to try to prevent splash on the lens!  Needless to say, it still got a little humid in that bag...  This camera (my first digicam, Toshiba PDR-M71) only works when it's cold now...  Strange.  It's my snowboarding camera now...

  • Nice shots and looks like fun! Sounds like your toshiba camera may have a cracked solder joint. When its warm it separates and loses contact, cools down and has contact again. Anyway, just a guess.

Life:  yeah, my guess too.  Or a slightly corroded connection.  But I don't have the know-how to fix that.  Think it would be obvious if I opened 'er up?

The repair bill would have been ~$300!!  So, I bought a new camera... :)
