  • Actually Center of Hibiscus is fine. That is about all the DOF you are going to get. Center yellow about the same
Bee & Moth, it either looks like you were into the Digital Zoom area of your camera (Never use the digital zoom only the optical zoom unless you are trying to get a nude picture of Tom Cruise) Or you have tried to Crop and resize a section of a photo. In which case, I can get away with that at 8.2 MP but with 3.2 you are probably at your max.
Macros are a very tough thing to do even with a very good camera. You really need to have a Great Macro lens and even then the DOF can be very shallow. So you have to choose what part of the shot you want to be clearest. You are also at a disadvantage since you can't see thru the lens, well you can kind of but the little Lcds are hard to tell true Focus.
To try to increase your Depth of field, if your camera has An aperture Priority setting try setting the aperture for the highest setting you can without causing the Shutter speed to be too low. (If you are hand holding)The smaller the Aperture (Higher the number) the greater your depth of field. (Up to the limits of your lens)

i was doing both with bee & moth.
cropping and using digital zoom.  i have recently found that digital zoom doesn't do very well with shots like bee & moth.

i get so frustrated b/c i want to take better pictures -but i'm limited with my equipment.  will eventually go for a better camera, but not yet. have to learn this one and its features.
    thanks. I'll practice.
    thanks for the advice.

  • Hey! Where did my big long comment go? I just typed a lot!!! Now I must repeat myself........ First, I like your hibiscus shot a lot. You can get decent older macro lenses for older 35mm slr's for cheap. I have a Minolta x370 which can be bought used on sites like ebay. It is a really good camera. I have a Sigma 50mm macro lens for it which I bought for about $60. I get great macro shots from it. Also, some higher end point-and-shoot digitals will produce amazing macros. I use a Canon s70 and it amazes me all the time with it's macro setting. A tripod when possible is always helpful, too. OK let's see if this posts. Keep shooting! ~Steve

  • It seems that depending on what  page, All post or single post, the comments don't work on the single post page only on the all posts page.

  • It looks like if you click the link of the actual post from the feed on the left-hand side of the main page, comments don't work. It makes sense because you are linking to a static version (a snap shot, if you will) of the post.

Well, makes sense to me; I tried to comment last night twice and it wouldn't post it.
Lechar, I feel your pain.  I have a Sony Mavica 3.2 and I have the same problem you have sometimes.  I just keep shooting until I get it the way I want it.  My camera isn't equipped for inter-changable lenses, so I'm stuck with what I got until I buy a better camera.  At least you now realize the fact that you can't do the digital zoom and it look good.  It took me a bit to understand that, too.  Good luck to you, and keep on keepin' on......thank goodness for the delete button........ :)
